According to Greg Swann, via twitter, we're up 27% on last year.

Promising, but I hope it's not due to an earlier renewal date or something like that.

I'm guessing that includes all the people (like me  ) who were on the payment plan option last season and didn't realise that it would automatically roll over and start taking money again if you didn't actually do something about it. Not a bad way to retain members

That's what Carlton for life implies.

Not that I follow them, but Liverpool FC's and Chelsea FC's international membership looks interesting and brings in some additional cash as well.

Why isn't the title being updated?

How about you start the thread next year, then you can ensure its updated daily.

CFC announcing 21,700 as of today.

What's the comparison to last year?

Dunno. They will be -1 though. I'm not going to be a member this year.

There are always people dropping off and new folk joining up.

I think that with Carlton being a serious grand final contender the membership tally will be fairly healthy but when our window eventually closes I wonder how many will stick like they did during the recent dark years

Me, Teddy Jnr, and Mrs. Teddy.

Mrs. Teddy only became a member late in life (read 2001) and saw 2 wins in 5 years !!!!!!!!!

We used to get to the ground early to make sure we heard the song. We knew we were not going to hear it after the game.

Very true, but how many of those have been a member for a very long time and contributed over $1800 directly to the club coffers last year alone? My guess would be not many. I'll continue to go to the footy, support Carlton etc...but as for my money...that's going elsewhere.

Many reasons.

* I have another form of membership.
* I'm disenchanted with the reactive nature of the club which starts at board level and permeates throughout its staff.
* I don't agree with the direction of Carlton FC's most important asset - the brand.
* The club doesn't listen to its members despite telling you it does.
* The club wants control of everything and has no idea it alienates supporters in doing so.
* The club doesn't need your money the way you think it does. Clubs have convinced supporters that they need you as one of 40,000-50,000 to remain viable, but this simply isn't true.

So that's it in a nutshell. There's other reasons, but they're a little petty even though they all add up.

I used to be one of those people that believed you weren't a real supporter unless you were a member. That's no longer the case.
