Carlton's pre-season is in turmoil after star forward Andrew Walker was seen sporting a cap at training. The incident has raised questions over the condition of the player so early in pre-season training.

It's not the first time Walker has had contention surrounding head attire.

Reborn Carlton Andrew Walker was reportedly not wearing a cap when he was escorted out of the Crown Casino lobby after being involved in a brawl with hotel staff.

Walker was also sporting a bandaged head when he took a contender for Mark of the Year - actually won by Collingwood's Andrew Krakour - in a high flying chest mark over Essendon*'s brave youngster Jake Carlisle.

Carlton CEO Greg Swann confirmed that Walker will see a cap specialist tomorrow to determine whether he requires rehabilitation.

"The club is confident that Walker will shake off the cap issue and will definitely play in Round 1", said Swann.

Not only that, they are annoyed that although they pioneered the use of hats in the 80's, they now only get to use them rarely nowadays; hence they will want some redemption when they play us this year

In linguistics, the Gunning fog index measures the readability of English writing.

The index estimates the years of formal education needed to understand the text on a first reading.

The Gunning fog index is calculated with the following algorithm:

1. Select a passage (such as one or more full paragraphs) of around 100 words. Do not omit any sentences;

2. Determine the average sentence length. (Divide the number of words by the number of sentences.);

3. Count the "complex" words: those with three or more syllables. Do not include proper nouns, familiar jargon, or compound words. Do not include common suffixes (such as -es, -ed, or -ing) as a syllable;

4. Add the average sentence length and the percentage of complex words; and

5. Multiply the result by 0.4.

So when you do this with The Age - you get a score of 11 - a fairly respectable result.

But for the HUN - their Gunning score is 7 - which is verging on infantile.

Only a few steps removed from the level of reading skill needed to comprehend The Cat in the Hat..or A Fly Went By

Which of course goes a long way to explaining the reasons behind why they run articles about Andrew Walker wearing that hat.

But the really tragic thing is that the HUN is one Australia's largest selling newspapers.
