11 years? I only recall him being appointed in his role in the Pagan years. Regardless, all the best Brett.

That said, I thought we need to improve in this area, so hopefully we're on the hunt for at the very least, some forward scouts.

Traitor.

But if he's not that good, on your way.

Hopefully we get an end of 1st rounder for him.

He's at least as good as Campbell Brown.

I don't think this is a particularly difficult role, just a time consuming one. The incumbent needs to have a very good relationship with the senior coach and also be willing to do some odd jobs around the place.

Is this a role that Mark Harvey or Dean Laidley could fill or is it too big a step down?

From what I've read throughout the years both are brilliant at breaking down the opposition, but fell down in areas such as match day tactics and player relationships.

Oh god, sounds like another job for the boys club........along with the inherent whinging and complaining from the usual suspects......

For Laidley & Harvey it's too big a step down. Both are good in tactical execution anyway, so there's a more expansive role that would suit them well.

Perhaps we should follow the GWS and Sydney model and employ Jimmy Buckley  :donk:

Jim's pretty good studying the form guide...albeit for a different sport.

Personally, I like how they go about this at Richmond. Wayne Campbell is Opposition and Training Coach...and Blair Hartley has the title of Opposition and List Analyst. So we could employ from within current staff...e.g job share between Luke Webster and Matty Capuano.

Nah, you want your opposition analysts attending impending opposition games live.
Webster and Capuano should be at our games. You may not see it as a full time role but it should be.

Barry had experience as an opposition analyst prior to moving into recruiting. Personally, I'd like to see some young, hungry people moving into these roles instead of Prendergast and Hyde. There's a few young bucks within junior development who are moving up the ranks with a bullet but if you're going to fill the roles with experienced people, these two have plenty of knowledge.
Good luck to him.
