Good interview just before he boarded plane for training camp mentioned only 2 picks in draft plus Buckley - said that they were really keen to see young ones develop -happy how we drafted last year - mentioned McCarthy watson mitchell - said also expect improvement from kerr and lucas When setanta was mentioned and why he was delisted suggested that S was 28-29 and he being on the list derogated from the development of hampson -a no 17 pick and that we really neded to see what he could do in terms of playing forward - also wanted Kreuze to have more chance as a forward suggested that delisting Setanta was a difficult decision but needed to do it to give our young talls a go. Admitted that setanta delisting may come back to bite us but that every club need to make those decisions and we know what Setanta is capable of but maybe mitchell mccarthy and watson will be better Also said that keeping outr KPP fit and on the park was important -mentioned waite also suggested that geelong model in keeping everyone fit and firing at the right time of the year is a model he wants to follow - I took from that he may tap the captain on the shoulder before a couple of matches next year indicating he may have a rest (not before time I reckon) |

Also suggested we may go for a 3 tall forward line next year, rather than the 2 tall set up we had this year. |

"Yeah but you've got Thornton who can take a mark and kick a goal, and then there's Walker who can play tall..." ... meanwhile there's 10 tall defenders on the list. |

Noticed in the AGE today Connolly took Rattens comments(or has been in here- hello Rohan ) to also mean that we will seek to follow the Geelong model and rest vital players at various times of the year if possible Ratts also mentioned in the interview depending on who steps up amongst young talls in the backline that he hasnt ruled out the Henderstar going forward in the future |

grrofunger wrote: what would ratts know? they are ruckmen only according to all the experts here Ratts doesn't have a magic wand either. I think we all have a pretty good idea how they are as forwards just by watching them many times before. How many ruckmen make it as forwards, very few. It's a different skill. It's a move born from desperation because of lack of options. We have better options. Let's face it, if we had KP forward options he wouldn't contemplate training up ruckmen to fill the role. Think we all know that. In other words, it's out of desperation. |

Hmm, depends whether Ratts defines Krueze and Hampson as ruckmen or forwards? Makes no difference what he defines them as, we know they are, and were recruited as, ruckmen. Forwards they weren't real good at. Define them what one likes, won't make them play the role better. Like flogging a dead horse with that one. Give Kreuzer more chance as he can actually hold a mark. Given one will be resting in a FP, that's ok and the spot for a ruckman when forward, but not in the KP. Thornton showed he a was a trillion times better KP forward than Hampson and even then we're looking for better still. |

jimmae wrote: Where were these ideas 3 months ago when they could have saved our season? ![]() Ah well, lesson learnt. I agree we have learnt some things. Speed destroyed the dons. No point changing the small forward line for them. With the Eagles we needed our best tall defenders in defence and were down tall players. Having said that, if we had Gibbs available and Tbird didnt go down we may have got that extra goal to get past WC. I doubt we will go for the 3 tall forwards as plan A by the time the 2012 season starts and i doubt those young defenders will become options in 2012 so i reckon Henda will stay back and Hampson, Waite, Kreuzer, Walker, and T Bird will be our marking forward options IMO. |

grrofunger wrote: what would ratts know? they are ruckmen only according to all the experts here Agreed grro... Apparently, our keyboard boffins think they've seen enough of Hampson in the forward line to categorically put a line through him as a forward. Some people need to watch Ratt's first 50 games. thank god Parko had faith in him cause they were pretty uninspiring. I'm not saying that Hammer to FF will work but I am saying that its worth giving it a go for a year at least |
