NAB Cup being changed up heaps next year. Rather than the knockout round of previous years, they are doing that six pool of 3 clubs thing with the short 40 minute matches. Then the following two weeks are full length matches with the two highest ranked teams playing in the Grand Final in week 4.

We are in a pool with Adelaide and Port Adelaide in the opening week. Week 2 we have the Western Bulldogs at Etihad and Week 3 we have Brisbane Lions with the venue TBC, but most likely another interstate trip.

No more crappy games at crappy venues  . Yes, I'm looking at you Bunbury.

I would rather have proper hit outs than face GWS/GC.

1 game of 4 in Melbourne

Easy draw - better format if you ask me - we should win that

Swans playing Kangas on March 3rd up the road from me at Rouse Hill - Ground only hold 4k and a bit - wonder if it will sell out

The AFL have released their NAB Cup schedule for 2012 and, again, there have been changes. This time, for example, each game each week until the GF is predetermined, whether you win or lose.
The first round is another lightning premiership sort of thing. From there, the format is different.

Round #1:
Round 1 – (Week 1)
Date Venue Teams Time Network
(a) Friday, Feb 17 Etihad Stadium 6.45pm Fox
Hawthorn
Richmond
North Melbourne

(b) Saturday, Feb 18 Blacktown International Sportspark 7.15pm Fox
GWS Giants
Western Bulldogs
Collingwood

(c) Sunday, Feb 19 Patersons Stadium 4.45pm Fox
West Coast Eagles
Fremantle
Essendon*

(d) Friday, Feb 24 Etihad Stadium 6.40pm Fox
Geelong Cats
St Kilda
Sydney Swans

(e) Saturday, Feb 25 Metricon Stadium 6.10pm Fox
Gold Coast Suns
Brisbane Lions
Melbourne

(f) Sunday, Feb 26 AAMI Stadium 2.40pm Fox
Adelaide Crows
Port Adelaide
Carlton

So, for Round #1 we are exiled to Adelaide to play and it isn't even on free to air TV!
Not happy, Jan!

Round #2
Friday, Mar 2 Metricon Stadium
Gold Coast Suns vs. Geelong Cats 7.40pm Fox
Saturday, Mar 3 Bruce Purser
Sydney Swans vs. North Melbourne 2.40pm
Saturday, Mar 3 Aurora Stadium
Hawthorn vs. GWS Giants 3.40pm Fox
Saturday, Mar 3 Mandurah
West Coast Eagles vs. Port Adelaide 4.10pm
Saturday, Mar 3 Wangaratta
Essendon* vs. St Kilda 7.00pm
Saturday, Mar 3 Etihad Stadium
Collingwood vs. Melbourne 7.40pm Fox
Saturday, Mar 3 Alice Springs
Adelaide Crows vs. Brisbane Lions 7.10pm
Sunday, Mar 4 Etihad Stadium
Western Bulldogs vs. Carlton 5.40pm Fox
Sunday, Mar 4 Patersons Stadium
Fremantle vs. Richmond 5.10pm Fox

So, 2 rounds in a row and we aren't on TV. At least we play in Melbourne.

Round #3:
Friday, Mar 9 Etihad Stadium
Essendon* vs. Sydney Swans 6.10pm Fox
Friday, Mar 9 AAMI Stadium
Adelaide Crows vs. Collingwood 8.10pm Fox
Saturday, Mar 10 Albury (Lavington)
GWS Giants vs. Gold Coast Suns 3.10pm
Saturday, Mar 10 Simonds Stadium
Geelong Cats vs. Richmond 3.10pm Fox
Saturday, Mar 10 Victor Harbor (TBC)
Port Adelaide vs. Fremantle 3.40pm
Saturday, Mar 10 (Venue TBC)
Brisbane Lions vs. Carlton 3.40pm
Saturday, Mar 10 Etihad Stadium
Melbourne vs. Hawthorn 5.40pm Fox
Saturday, Mar 10 Patersons Stadium
West Coast Eagles vs. St Kilda 5.10pm Fox
Sunday, Mar 11 North Ballarat
North Melbourne vs. Western Bulldogs 3.40pm Fox

So, this time we appear to be on free to air TV, but the game could be anywhere.

GF:
Saturday, Mar 17 (Venue TBC)
7.40pm EDT* Fox/Seven

I can't really say I'm happy, but we'll see how we go.

Depends on whether the AFL hand out 4,000 free tickets.

You say that now, but I reckon 2 quarters in you'll be begging for ad breaks to shut up the d-grade commentary team.

Yeah but Jimmae, won't that also mean the freedom to play any radio broadcast we want in sync with the Foxtel coverage?
Or..will there still be a discrepancy in time?

There's a small delay in time. A couple of seconds at least.

Id rather a 'D-Grade Commentary Team' (not that they re that bad) over being subjected to the same 5 commercials beaing repeated for 3 hours at any given opportunity..

Wonder if we'll beat the Bulldogs this time? I've been pretty disappointed that we've lost to them the last couple of years.

We will shit it in during the NAB Cup against the Dogs, then come the season proper, we will go in confident into the game and they will wallop us. Watch this space, you heard it here first.
