http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/newsar ... fault.aspx Quote: ...Appointed to the new role of midfield stoppage coach, Williams spent two years as the Melbourne Football Club’s midfield coach before moving to the Western Bulldogs as an assistant coach at the end of 2008, in the role of forward line coach for two seasons and as the midfield coach in 2011... ...Williams will join current Carlton midfield coach Mark Riley, as well as ruck coach Matthew Cappuano - whose role will also now encompass player development. I hated this guy when he played for Collingwood. Hopefully stints at other clubs have washed the filth out of him. ![]() |

If he can coach as well as he played, then he should be a good asset to the coaching staff. (And when did Matthew Capuano change the spelling of his name? ![]() |

He'll be on SEN after 12:10pm today. I guess audio will make it to their podcast section in the next day or so if you miss it. ![]() |

No idea about his coaching credentials, but the continued rise in football department spending is fantastic to see. A specialised midfield stoppage coach should definitely help ![]() Still remember Damien Barrett claiming members of the Board wanted to run Carlton like a business and cut down on football department spending. God, between him, Hutchy and (made-up)sportsnewsfirst, I don't know who is more laughably poor. |

No 2 team in the comp for winning clearances - would not of thought this was an area that needed more input but I'm just an internet Nazi what would I know |

Rumours are that Williams left Collingwood because of Buckley, so an enemy of Buckley is a friend of mine. |

Going purely by such stats is dangerous. I still feel there are periods in games where we are made completely ineffective in the middle - we were smashed by West Coast, the Bulldogs and Collingwood for example. We should always be looking for improvement ![]() |

I think it's great to see the club continuing to evolve and rejuvenate the coaching staff with a guy who has solid credentials and, as much as I hate to admit it, was a gun player. |

Yep, you've got to at least try and move a step ahead of the competition, I think this could be just the thing to do it. |

Here's a quick rundown of Williams' interview: - BR rang Willo late last week, quick convo and deal settled - Really excited to be part of Carlton FC - Grateful for opportunity at Bulldogs to take on caretaker role, learnt a lot from application process too - Working with Riley, concentrating on stoppages, exciting due to calibre of coaches at Carlton - Reckons we have close to best coaching panel in AFL - Excited to work with our mids and ruck combos - Will start next week - Didn’t apply for Saints job (reading between lines his management advised not to) - Difficult to coach against Blues’ mids when with Dogs this year - Can’t wait to get to club, feels like a new recruit - Improvement to come from a few tweaks, has knowledge in area of stoppages - Caretaker role with Dogs helped him better understand his long-term ambitions - Learnt that senior role requires much more attention, surprised at how much time players outside of best 22 required |

I always appreciated Willams as a player, real class. Great story when he moved to Sydney played great footy and hung on long enough to win a flag. |

Also seemed to have some definite plans for our boy's. He played with Browny and Richo, yes? |
