Collingwood can bleat all they like, but the ball was not over the line. Check out the goal umpire, he has a perfect view and he would have signalled to the boundary umpire if the ball was completely over the line. |

It would be killing them to think it was out and we still got the goal out of it!

A bloke I know used to work with Harmsey, and when he was asked whether the ball was in or out, he wouldn't say either way. Looking at the footage, geez the club were very lucky that day to get away with that. If it happened these days I'm not sure the umps would be as forgiving. |

I've been to a lot of winning Carlton Grand Finals in my time - but in my memory nothing comes close to the feeling of euphoria I felt after that win in 1979. Perhaps it was the satisfaction of getting in on a Junior Ticket for 60cents, perhaps it was the satisfaction of watching it under cover in recesses of the old Northern Stand and seeing all those who had been scalped $200 for a ticket getting wet. Perhaps it was drinking & spraying those surreptiously smuggled in bottles of premium Great Western Champagne (as I recall it was labelled champagne in those days). Perhaps it was the satisfaction of knowing that I would go to school on Monday Morning to stick it up all those Collingwood Filth who had made my High School Life a miserable (dont know why as they hadnt won a flag either during that time). I really dont know - all I know its was FLOWERING FANTASTIC and nothing will come close till we get to Number 17. So dont really care whether it was in or out.

Can I tell you, I was there and I was on the same wing with a fantastic view of the moment unfolding. Without a shadow of a doubt, and despite being 13 at the time, I would argue the ball was in! Now bear in mind I believe I saw the Easter bunny one day at my primary school and also have no doubt that this was the case. I'm just sayin.... |

ah what a day, i was 14 standing on the wing northern stand. couldnt see what happened but was good. it actually out us 11 points up, butch edwards kicked a goal after that . Mconville could have easily been paid a mark but edwards got the crums and snapped on his left |

Harmesy actually said he truly doesn't know. He was running full pelt, focussed only on the ball. i think he likened it to hitting a golf ball, do you actually really see exactly the moment you hit it? you're eyes usually close...  God I hope it was out. |

Twas my first granny....great day....couldn't stand seeing Ray Byrne and Rod Olsen running around in filth jumpers and especially given Olsen was one of the best until Keogh ironed him out and when Harmes went into the middle the game turned dramatically....there were some great moments in this GF....Yes Harmes' tap back into play the best of them....but the battle between Picken and Sellers was classic stuff....The Dominator manhandling Picken like he was a ragdoll was magic....Doormat just being impassable....the mosquito fleet cutting the filth up when the sun came out for a brief moment in the 3rd....Francis relentlessly driving us forward from his wing....Jezza going down late in the 4th when there was under a goal in it....Perc providing the laughs as always....Harmesy's moment of course....the exhiliration when the siren sounded....but nothing will ever beat the look on the face of a middle aged looking filth barracking tramp in the standing room behind me (in the southern) caged in by a wire fence back then....with the biggest gorby hanging off your left eye....the result of her calling Jezza names I cannot repeat here on these forums....and an incident the details of which provided many a laugh for myself and our group for years and years to come....oh if only I had an iphone back then....
