Could kreuzer do it? - Big, strong, hunts the ball, will tackle and can release the ball by hand/foot. Would certainly be able to clear some space at stoppages for Judd et al. Just tell him not to compete in the ruck at all except occasional 3rd man up.

Queries would be pace, fitness and whether or not a full time roving role would be any worse on his body/knees than playing in the ruck.

hampson+warnock in the ruck/rotating forward +kreuzer as the inside mid with occasional stints resting forward...

Thoughts?

Get McLean another yard of pace over the pre season .. If at all possible. Don't kill Kreuzer .

And somebody tell Ratten to start protecting Juddy at stoppages.

Just what we need. A 200 cm mobile player crawling into the packs on his hands and knees.
I'd rather he played a kick in front of and behind the play as the circumstances determine. Either that or he plays in the FF line as a marking forward. He just has to learn to take more marks.

Curnow/Robbo/McLean/Ellard/Betts/Touhy maybe even Walker. If we don't trade for an inside mid, one of those will have to step up or have a change of role.

I like the thought of Touhy. The kid just seems a natural. If he has the tank, I'd move him to the midfield post haste.

Curnow will hopefully get back to his early season form and this position will not be an issue at all.

Get McLean! I hear the Dees might trade him, but not cheaply.

Would be interested to know what happened with Curnow. Even in the vfl he looked shot.

good idea with kruezer....you have my vote. he doesnt need to get onto the ground.....ie they wouldn't be able to drag him there he is that big......use his body weight and size to bullock others out.

it is a creative idea......if it works it has huge upside. if it doesnt, what have we lost? certainly this idea has as much going for it as trusting that he'll turn into a power forward.

juddy is 28. we cant rely on his strength at the stoppages any longer. Juddy at the stoppages in 2012 should be a bonus rather than the core of our game plan.

Thinking that McLean or Curnow are the ideal options is flawed. Their pace and skills are not great.

just a stab in the dark here...but possibly we could lose a number 1 draft, elite 10 year player?
Thinking we don't have an abundance of quality ruck and KPP forwards right now. Thinking...pigs might fly..... but hey.
anything could happen.

how do we lose him? if it is injury you are worried about.......lets qualify it.....

incidence of serious injury appears to be more likely with taller marking players.

what is the difference between him playing in the ruck versus ruck rover......other than jumping, jumping jumping whilst fatigued?. exposing a number draft pick to the grind of rucking all day ain't risk free.

From my eyes, i have been most excited with Kruezer when i see him around the ground contesting the ball, bullocking traffic with his second efforts.

pigs might fly?

ps there is no demonstration as yet, that playing a KPP his is strong suit. Ask the guy.....his preference is to play on the ball and where the action is

Jordan Russell

stamos Jordan russell would be a beauty to now slot into the midfield......big pre season from him, with lucas and tuohy.......lob them into the action.

start to wean juddy away from the guts.....that'll sort out the opposition.

I would definitety be looking at Kane Cornes .
been there done that .multiple best and fairest winner. hard nosed defensive midfielder.
only if he comes cheap and they pay half.

JR has the strong body for the job, is quicker than Brock/Ed and isn't afraid to cop a hit. But his forays thus far into the middle haven't been overly impressive. But on the other hand with Yarran, Touhy, Duigan and Laidler seemingly with the defensive sweeper sorts of roles taken care of, perhaps the MC can spend the off-season as a 'project' in that centre role, even if it means sacrificing other elements of his game.

+1.

I'm sure Cordy and Ok will be working on his tank over the pre-season.

I get that LB..but....c'mon..you're not really serious are you?
It's a given that you need them to get down amongst it as well as buffet with their bodies standing. i mean..he should do that buffeting as part of his ruck role..
Yes..his kicking has been off since recovery..but remember, he hardly ever used to miss for goal.
I like the idea of Jordy there...but would he like ithat role?
We need a killer on there.
Do you think Curnow lost his nerve after that injury...or is it still a bit sore?
He would be great if he gets back to where he was.

If JR stays at Carlton then he's probably going to have to take that role unless he wants to play in the VFL for 2012.

As mentioned Laidler/Duigan/Yarran and to a lesser extent Tuohy have all pinched spots in the back half. Tuohy you would probably keep developing in that defensive role rather than force him to swap positions now.

All a bit of a moot point if Curnow can regain his form and as he's only 22 or so and with very limited AFL experience I would give him the benefit of the doubt now.

Isn't he out of contract? Port are definitely looking to move him on though.
