For several weeks a worrying trend has been developing, several players have been playing cocky footy
** Yarran's long and often fruitless runs where he takes 3 or 4 bonces and turns it over or ends up running into trouble
** Garlett thinking he can burn off everyone with his speed and inevitably being caught.
** Playing on after a mark within 15 m of goal and getting caught
** Not playing the 1%ers
** Chasing at half speed
** lowering tackle count

We dont seem to have the hard edge possessed by the best teams

The good thing is they lost dishing up that soft crap.

I expect them to step it up next week. My concern is the form and fitness of key players and the resulting effect on our structure and game style.

What a load of crap.
Yes Yarran will get caught out occasionally but give me a player with his line breaking ability any day.
With zones, presses and clusters the flavour of the month, a player that can run the ball and hit up loose players on the diagonal are worth their weight in gold.

I'll have that over safe and secure kicks to contests every time. Yes you need your workers and players who can consistently do a job for you but you also need risk takers.
Just like websites need a balanced view of optimists and dead set sooks. It would be boring and too predictable without them.

I'm with BV - I don't see Yarran's run and bouncing as arrogance or cockiness. I think he's actually playing to instruction in a team which has very few line breakers. If he's not being instructed to play that way then I'd be very surprised.

The only issue I have with Yarran's running and bouncing is that he can ignore teammates along the way and it puts forwards off leading.

Should be a general rule of no bouncing past the centre.

Otherwise, nothing like a good loss to bring Headcutter back ranting and raving.

They won't ever stop Yarran running like he is. Could be the best half back in the game as early as next year.

every other coach in the league would wish for Yarran's ability to break lines. Absolutely extraordinary.

I reckon it's our frward plan that lets us down when he comes zinging out of defence. WE look as surprised as the opposition.

He only runs into trouble out of frustration due to lack of a genuine lead up forward target.

I'm starting to get a bit pissed off about the criticism about yarran going for a gallop.

he's one of the only guys out their trying to make something @#$%&! happen.

Robert walls criticism during the game last night was retarded.

they were bemoaning all game how the saind were floodding back and we had nothing to kick too yet Yarran is an arrogant one trick play on pony!

give me a @#$%&! break. he had nothing to kick too!

id much rather he play on, take on the game and make a few mistakes than kick the ball 45 backwards like the rest of them.

he was 1 meter short of kicking goal of the year last night! lay off yarran!

I love that Yazz takes the game on, even though he occasionally gets himself in strife. Dash and confidence is something we sometimes lack.

My only issue is that he needs to understand that he also has teammates relying on him, who simply can't keep up with him, both physically as well as what's going on in his head. It's a problem on both sides, as he often has to run a bit extra because no-one is presenting, but on the flipside there are probably times where they probably don't know where to present to because his brain works so much faster than their's. So I hope that over pre-season they develop some real strategies for how best to utilise Yazz's run-and-carry, because speed and flair alone without system can only get you so far.

Well put, Don.

i often think Yazz takes one bounce too many, and that leads him into trouble. i love the way he takes the game on and i get genuinely excited when he has the ball in his hands. a little bit more composure and maturity and he'll get it right every time.

..it's also whats happening further up-field that can complicate Yarran's run, or anyone running direct off HBF.. ..lacking a big fwd target also complicates it since you have to run that little bit extra to pinpoint a pass to a small/fwd leading hit-up fwd..

..playing on after a mark within range is my concern, last night's prime eg's Jeff and Setanta..

Anyone else catch the Swans/Lions game?

Roos was interesting in his thoughts on Jetta, and backing him in to take on blokes, no matter what. If he gets caught, he gets caught. They bought him in to the team along with Rohan for extra leg speed, so you might as well back him in..

I rate Yarran ahead of Jetta in this regard, just quietly.

Hey @Donstuie
Boot Photoshop again, if the bombers logo as shown on the toilet roll feeds from behind (haha) it will be upside and on the reverse side of paper when it comes out (your bottom squashed) logo. Redraw, or just turn your dunny paper the right-way around ;-) Maybe it's a bombers house though…

It's on both sides. I don't want there being any chance that the logo doesn't come into contact with arseholes or the leftover faecal matter still lining them.

This pst is not purely about Yarran, rather about the general demeanor of the team in recent times.

I love Yarran's sublime skills and dash however over the last month I would say he takes a bounce nearly every time he touches the ball and often this is at the expense of teammates who are providing good leads.
Yazz is an excitement machine however his defensive side is his achilles heel, if he is going to carry the ball 50m he better be sure it doesn't result in a turnover otherwise he leaves his direct opponent free and places the whole back line under pressure.

Only issue i have with Yarrans 'runs' are that his teamamates don't block or shepherd etc to assist him.

Gartlett has actually been down for a good 6 weeks or so. Not much output from the little bloke and when he has an opportunity to nail a goal he freezes up.
