How appropriate in the lead up to the West Coast game...

Happy 20th anniversary to one of our all time great Princes Park wins.

I was sitting bottom deck of the Elliot stand. The Tarczon shirtfront on mcKenna was right in front of us. The sound itself was painful. It was a brutal hit. I think it let the Eagles know that things were going to be tough for them that day.

Did Silvagni consider being a LARS guinea pig at the time?

Only saw it on the telly, but living in WA, a very fresh memory indeed.

Back then, when they were going well, if the Eagles were on TV you could go out and there would be 90% less cars on the road and nobody out working, or in their front yards, or at the shops.

A lot like Adelaide on a busy day.

Great game. Was in Year 11 at the time and trash talking all week that we'd win this one. :yikes:

Had a bet with a Collingwood supporter. Deal was he'd pay me 50c per point we won by, and I'd pay nothing if WC won, that's how confident he was.

Suffice to say, when we were 30+ up just before half time I was already counting the coin, but still walked away with the most satisfying $1.50 ever!

Think that got me minimum chips, 2 games of 1942, and change.

Was a cracker.
I was 10. Jumped the fence on the siren, bolted into the middle, and jumped all over Harry Madden and Bear Gleason.
I was on every news break on TV that night.
It was unbelievable.

21 years ago tomorrow (23rd June 1990) was one of our all time great wins as well.

41 points down at half time against Geelong at Princes Park - (down by up to 48 points during the second quarter) and we got up and won that game - thanks to marvellous second half efforts from Stephen Silvagni and Stephen Kernahan.

Of course I dont know too much about it - as I was busy attending the birth of my daughter Ms Agro Jnr - who turns 21 tomorrow.

Ms. Agro Jnr was almost named "Stephanie" as a result - however sanity did prevail and was named "Alex".

She is a level headed beautiful young women nothing like her old man.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow sweetie pie.

Have only seen the Blues a handful of times in Melbourne and that was one of them.

Corporate box although I really wanted to be in the stands.

People thought West Coast were going to go through the season underfeated that season.

I was right behind Minton-Connells kick to ice the game!

Great Carlton win especially when you look at the names that played that day.

Verbeek, Rieniets, Phillips, Fotia, Bassett

Turned the game yet still no Brownlow votes to SOS. Finished on 16 votes with Libba winning it with 18 from memory.

HotCox, harsh on Phillips. Would have been a gun if not for crippling career ending back injury.

One of my favourite home and away games of all time.

I remember reading the experts' tips in the herald sun that Saturday morning and seeing the only person to tip us was Tony De Bolfo (as he did every week).

Right behind Minton Connel's kick sitting in our usual seats in the Hawthorn stand.

Correct me if I'm wrong - didn't someone from the crowd hit Karl Langdon in this game????

Yes Langdon did get hit, created a furore at the time, people saying we would have to watch matches behind barbed wire etc.

I remember thinking we would get done by about 70 points (I was such an optimist as a 10 year old).

I was in the forward pocket on top of the concrete where dug out was on the heatley stand area, so right behind Minton-Connel's kick. I remember Tarczon adding some real grunt.

Looking at that side though, some very ordinary names in that team, we were propped up in those times by a core of about 8 excellent senior players, but struggled to find consistent contributors outside of that.
