I love Walker and always have but I wouldn't have been against seeing him go last year. It (the union of Carlton and himself) just didn't seem to be gelling like it should. I would have wished him the best and hoped that he prospered well elsewhere. But now, Walker seem settled and aware, in control and more importantly - Confident! A Confident Walker can do just about anything, and he's proving that this year. He's a joy to watch! Another thing i've noticed is that he's become a much more attacking player. He DEMANDS the ball! I think when Pagan played him down back for his 'development' he became a bit too defensive in his game which was probably everything he wasn't in his under 18's days. Whoever is responsible for restoring some faith within himself and his game - I thank you! |

Thing that bugs me, is they played him fwd in a game I think against Port at Etihad (before it was named so) a few years back, and he looked very dangerous. Kicked a lovely goal on the run, burbned his opponent running around the boundary, then turned back inside and snapped across his body, it was an electrifying goal Then they never played him there again Til it was almost too late |

If Walker had played forward earlier in his career the chances are he would have had his ribs broken three times - most likely been knocked out twice and possible punctured a lung or two and his ears would have a constant ringing in them |

Beginning talks on a new deal is not "just about re-signing". I hope to God he stays, he's a unique talent. But my reading of the situation is that there is still much work to be done. |

But my reading of the situation is that there is still much work to be done. Agree with this, however the fact that they are in talks means he at least wants to stay, and that is positive. I was rapt when the trade deal fell through at the end of last year. He's always had the talent, just not the luck, and we were never going to get fair value for him. I reckon Tex will have a big influence on our Flag prospects. ![]() |

He's out of contract at season's end. He's in good form and he's vital to our forward structure. He deserves to be rewarded by the club. I think it's in his best interests to stay also. He has been through the shit times. He has good mates at the club, is well regarded by his peers and isn't going to be a 1 out forward with Waite, henderson, Kreuzer, Setanta and Mitchell coming through the ranks. If he goes to GWS, his body will be punished by playing on the big defenders. I think his straight goal kicking is one of the stories of 2011 for the Blues. I was wondering what he did. Obviously a lot of hard work and according to that article, some coaching from Harris. Good job Darren. ![]() |

He deserves a pay rise and i am also pleased that he stayed as i never wanted him to go. Its good that he is confident enough to speak his mind. Hope this doesnt drag on as long as other negotiations have. |

He's always been one of my favourites. We got him as a high draft pick when the AFL wanted to give us nothing. From that moment on he was ours. Regardless of whether people pigeon hole him as a backman, midfielder, forward, good kicker, bad kicker, they are all just view points for me. I'm entitled to mine and I always believed he added value to the team, but was wasted in the backline. That's my opinion. He played a great role at CHB against Croad at his peak. He played as an attacking HBF and carried the ball and broke lines from way deep back pocket to kick deep into the forwardline. Also a great midfield tagger, and imo a natural midfielder. I think it was CJ69/Psych and I who would have loved to se Walker and waite take the wings for the Mighty Blues, and that was years ago. The shit that happened to that guys shoulders was cruel, and impacted his standing in the footy community. Obviously he wasnt really valued when he was put up for trade at his request at the end of the season. I think everyone (bar a coupla negative posters) was glad he remained with us, and continued that role from his last game in the 2010 final against Swans. He's ours at we love him. I think he knows that. It's his time now. It is honourable to be a one team player, and this guy could well be that now that his body is sorted. I expect him to out live the No 1 draftee of the same year and become a premiership player. He willl share the glory with the friends he's made over the years at the Blues and fought many a battle with, and he will be celebrating with Bluebaggers at all the premiership reunions for the next 50-100 years. It will turn out that pick No 2 (the AFL didn't want us to have) will be the pick of that year in the not to distant future...and all his detractors will come to the fold and love him for what he will be: a great Carlton Premiership player. As I said in my last post to Andrews dad (DOA), something like... whilst Tex is playing in the Carlton jumper I always have high hopes that we will win regardless of the opposition. I just hope his dad is happy that Andrew's happy with his footy, his footy team and where they are heading. |

I think we can all agree that Walker vindicated last year was probably justified. The message was clear, he needed to improve. To his full credit, he has put a massive upside to his game. He has worked hard, and even the commentators are now justifying his selection at number 2. He deserves to be re-signed for 2 more years. It is possible he (still) hasn't peaked given this is arguably a new role for him. 25 goals (equal 1st) for the club this year. We needed someone to stand up, and someone has. |

bondiblue wrote: I think everyone (bar a coupla negative posters) was glad he remained with us What's good for a club's future and what's in the immediate interests of the individual are not always the same thing. For me, it is always about what is offered up for trade, it's not always black and white. You can't blame some of us for thinking that Port or Adelaide may have come up with a fair trade for a talented (and still relatively young) player that needed a bit of a change of luck. I don't view wanting to see a player traded as a negative, quite the opposite - if Port had have come to the party and then subsequently misused Walker then we'd be none the wiser. I'm glad we kept Walker and I probably wanted him traded last year. Then again, I'm not a fatalist. ![]() ![]() |

I must have read the article a little differently than you Buzz... when I see the club saying he wants to stay and we want him to stay, with a timeline given - to me that suggests a fair likelihood of agreement. Unlike Olarenshaw this morning on SEN talking about Lake - could have made it more clear lake would be moving on at the end of the year if anyone wants him. Unbelievable performance. |

Ratten deserves credit for finally giving him a set position and above all Walker deserves credit for working hard to hang onto that position. Truth is 12 months ago very few would have backed Walker to kick a goal from a set shot, even 20 metres out straight in front, but the improvement in his kicking for goal is just out of this world. |

..will stay, has the 'med-fwd' position well and truely sewn up.. ..always liked it as his best position, is playing a little deeper than i figured.. ..always pictured him more as a high leading half forward.. |

Truth be told I dont think his set shots for goal have ever been an issue - in particular he has rarely had opportunities to kick for goal as he has mainly been played in defence or deep in the mid-field. Its more been his target field kicking which has been a problem - as he has had a habit of trying to drill his short passes which has led to problems in him hitting targets. |
