I'm posting this in Talking Carlton because it's State of Origin....Vic. vs SA.....1987.

So....we'd have Kernahan and Bradley and possibly Naley playing for S.A.; and I would think Silvagni....Rhys....and the Dominator playing for Vic.

My vague memory is it was a great game and worth watching.

Have a feeling Paul Meldrum would've been playing for the Big V too given how well he started the season and these games were generally in the 1st half of the season.

Was it 85 playing for SA Kernahan tore the Vics to shreads?
Dont recall who he played on.
I remember the commentators saying Carlton had him signed up or was trying to for the next year. Was pretty happy about that at the time.

WA v Vic weren`t bad either. I remember racing home from school to watch an absolute classic in about 84/85 over there. I think it might have been Gary Ablett`s first state game and he was unbelievable, marking and kicking everything. We narrowly lost.

It was in 1984 that Sticks kicked 10 goals for the croweaters

I believe thats him wearing #8.

Was this the game that turned Mark Naleys form around? He'd struggled up til then.

I was at the '84 WA v Vic game at Subi, called in sick and went with my brother. Both teams kicked 21 goals a piece, best game of footy I've ever been to.

I think WA kicked the first 7 or 8 goals and we ( i was an escapee from Vic) just fought the whole game to get back into it. Lost by 3 or 4 points, but the crowd was something you don't get anymore at Subi i.e. Hard core footy nuts, who knew what the game was about. They gave us plenty all day, but not knobheads.

Got sunburnt looking into the sun all day, in the old standing room wing and had a bit of trouble explaining what exactly my illness was that would cause sunburn.

They reckon the 86 was the best game involving WA and Vic, but I don't see it that way.

No, that game was in 1987 after he failed to make an early imapct at the Blues and was dropped to the Magoos - turned in a blinder in the State Game and never looked back from there on with the Navy Blues.

And the game last night from 1987 where he kicked 3 early goals?

It was 1984, Adelaide was still in the 70s.

I thought Molly (Ian) Meldrum was BOG in the first half at least.....Naley played well too.

Commentators were Drew Morphett and Kevin Bartlett....didn't do a bad job.

The players are so much more skilled on both sides of the body today....and the game last night was relatively slow.....but still entertaining.
