Looking forward to it. Might announce he has finally re-signed.

I reckon they only invite our players and coaches on these programs after a game they expect/hope us to lose.

God, I hope so. Will be so much better than the interview he did where he was asked the question and started sweating like Nixon when debating Kennedy.

Slim chance...but hopefully Paul Connors and he rehearse some lines so he can give a forthright response and they move onto the next question. Any indecision on Marc's part will only cause consternation with club and possibly have an adverse effect in negotiations between Icke and Connors.

It must be remembered that while Marc is the central figure in discussions, he is a passive player in proceedings. In our favour is the knowledge that he likes it at the club, he and Chris Judd have the same manager, is a Melbourne boy, has business away from football in Melbourne that requires him to be here and has a close circle of family/friends. But money talks. I'm still 97% sure he'll stay..and I'm not concerned if this drags out beyond the Grand Final. It's only time to worry when you see @MarcMurphy3 start tweeting Dalai Lama inspired quotes such as... 'The future belongs to the risk takers, not the security seekers'

I don't quite understand what most parties are trying to pull in contract negotiations. The managers on both sides know club figures, know the cap and know the market place. It's pretty straight forward to come up with what's reasonable, and then work it into the existing structure.

I reckon the extra 6 months of penny clutching would be lucky to secure either side more than 5% on the original terms offered.

Agree with you totally. However maybe Murphy really doesnt know what his future holds. Maybe he is weighing up all offers and is really undecided. GWS have no doubt put a pretty good offer in front of him that may be too good to refuse.

There is a thing called the CBA currently being negotiated and the players are trying to get 27% of the cake. I would suggest that this has significant ramifications on the salry cap for future years at least.

Add a re-negotiation clause. I'm sure there's something built into the existing CBA that allows for this, given that there are minimum cap requirements to be met by clubs.

I said I don't quite. They should probably earn their keep doing research instead of going in half-cocked.

Yeah, but 5% of Murph's deal buys you a Prius...

That's one way to see it. The other is a spare 20-25k to secure 3 or 4 of his team mates on extensions.

Well, yeah!! That's MY point. The 5% IS meaningful to both sides. A car to the player. A chance to secure a few "lower-down-the-list players" to the club. So we've now answered your original question - that might be what they're all trying to achieve.

Dare I say it that thinking logically and without any undue pessimism, he will sign when the EBA has been finalised so that Connors and the Club will know what the increase in the salary cap over the next three years will be.

Why would he sign up for something now, then in two months time find that he could have added an extra $XXXX to his yearly haul over the next three years?

Any concern whether he will sign or not should not be shown until the benefits to the players courtesy of the increased TV revenue is known.

Settle petals.
