Ask me again in 5 years time when he has 4 Brownlows and 3 navy flags.

I'm not as lucky as other TCers to have seen the likes of Jezza, Big Nick, Barass, but here's the top 5 I've seen:

1. Kernahan
2. Williams
3. Koutoufides
4. Silvagni
4. Bradley
5. Judd

Special mentions to Ratten and Andy McKay, and Juddy has come into the top 5 players I've seen play for Carlton. The 2010 Brownlow nudged him into that top echelon.

If we win a flag or three, Juddy could very well push into the top three for mine and perhaps number one. Too early to call as our best though yet.

If he starts kicking goals by the end of the year he will be very close

He's only played about 70 games for the club so I don't think he's the best ever to have worn the navy blue. The media and everyone who saw last week's game is gob smacked with that performance but that doesn't make him the best ever to play for the club. I could be wrong but I think there were media reports when Diesel knocked up possessions in a game for us that he was the best ever, the same thing happened when Kouta had a day out, and again when Kerna dominated the forward line. To be the best ever he would need a few more years of being the best at the club to qualify at least. Let's just enjoy watching him lead our team and look at comparisons after he has retired.

The only other man I would put in Judd's category would be Kouta at his best. Mind you Kouta's period of sustained brilliance was a period of invincibility from 1999 through to his knee reconstruction end of 2001. He reinvented himself after the kee injuries, but was never the same. Judd's into year 4 at the club and has not had any down time yet. If he stopped missing easy goals, it wouldn't even be debatable. Just an amazing player

I think that you will be rating Judd considerably higher than some of you are once the next few years play out.

There is at least one, possibly two premiership medallions to be won yet - and also possibly a Norm Smith medal as well.

I have been watching the great since the mid sixties and seen them all from Nick to Judd.

For sheer brilliance Jezza but he was too hot and cold even during games. Kouta came close but his bloody leg collapsed on him at his peak.

I would not rate the greatness of a player on premierships won but as an individual (look at Bobby Skilton, one final in the last year of his career but three Brownlows). And as an individual with the support or lack of Judd stands out.

Judd won the Brownlow last year because he stood out in a team that did not support him. This year he is standing out because the AFL has changed the rules and made it harder for the opposition to tag him. So he is favourite to win the Brownlow again.

He is the most consistently brilliant player we have had play. No question.

SOS was right up there, our backline still hasn't recovered from his retirement. I place him at number 2.

Number 3 is Nick.

Number 4 is the Doormat.

Number 5 is Jezza.

Diesel no as he had no defensive side. Kouta unfortunately no as he had the knee injury otherwise he would have rivalled Judd and may have beaten him. His best really was the best I have seen.

Anyway, that's how I see it.

Not even close at this stage.

We have a magnificent array of players who performed when it mattered most. During finals.

Once we begin playing multiple finals on a regular basis we will be able to judge him againt others.

He is the best Carlton player of the past 10 years without a doubt.

Kouta in his standout seasons (circa 2000/2001?) is the best footballer I have ever seen, not just at Carlton.

Best in my lifetime. In the team of 95 or teams of 81, 82, it really would have been fun to watch him play.

At his brilliant best AK43 was the ultimate man, as Leigh Matthews said if he could clone a player he would clone Kouta! Kouta was also sensational in Finals, his record in those games speak for itself!

Judd is an animal when it comes to the contest, I've been following the blues since 79 so I can't comment on blokes like Big Nic, jezza etc but since 79 I would have my top 5 as

Kouta
Sticks
SOS
Diesel
Judd

The top 4 were sensational in finals for us & I'm sure when Judd gets that opportunity he will also be the like!

For those of you who talk about brilliance and finals, either compare Judd like for like or don't compare him at all. You admit finals are a different ball game and if Judd hasn't had the opportunity he can't be marked down for it. Otherwise the thread should be closed until he has played sufficient finals.

If not, compare like for like which is home and away only. By the way, the third quarter against the Swans last year in the finals wasn't too bad was it? Had even some media commentators describing it reasonably well.

A few notes.:

a) Jezza wasn't hot and cold - you must've watched a differerent Jezza. He was 3rd in the Brownlow 3 times, he kicked over 100 goals in a season, he played in 4 premierships and starred in 2 of them, he was considered just about the best of his era (Captain of Victoria), he was consistently a top player.
b) Juddy is the best Carlton player I've seen ......... since 2007

My top 5:

1. John Nicholls
2. Jezza
3. Doull
4. Crosswell
5. Johnston

(mind you, this list changes every time I do it, but the top 2 haven't changed for 35 years)

He may the most consistently good player I have seen in a carlton jumper. Juddy has probably played about 65 games for the blues and I reckon around 60 of those have been very good or better.

I am not sure anyone else who has put on a navy blue jumper could match that.

Not sure yet if he is the greatest as the carlton careers of kouta, sticks, sos, doull, braddles, nicholls, jezza etc exceed 250 games.
