Lets face it. No matter what we do as a club we will not get any respect as a club from the wider football community. Ever. According to the 'experts' we are A one player team Not as brave as Essendon* Not as good as Richmond Have really only beaten Gold Coast and got lucky in the rest. Might be, possibly be, could be a top four contender but really will be lucky to make the eight, but Essendon* are shoo ins for the top four. So do what I do. Ignore the media they are in the main idiots, incapable of analyitical thought and followers of the 'party line' as set by the AFL. Personally I do not care for the 'respect" of the wider football community, all I care about is that club respects itself, gets on the with the job, improve and wins that 17th Flag before anyone else does. And if we do win that flag somehow it will be alledged that we 'cheated' |

dont know why anyone cares what others think of us. I am enjoying watching this team grow, starting back with the day Ratten was appointed coach, we have improved as a team, improved our list , improved our club ( goes back to when Pratt arrived back). and it goes on, and on, step by step, brick by brick, just like building a house, then sitting back and watching for good the house is. this footy club is for US, not for the journos, or other clubs. Enjoy it, and keep it in prespective. if in doubt , remember back pre Ratten era. You cant finish the house until you build the foundations. |

I agree with your opinion of the media, but I don't think their opinions are influenced by the AFL. I feel their bias is directed by which team/s will generate more viewership/readers, and sell more advertising. I do agree with your sentiment that we as supporters need to HTFU, and ignore all the haters. WTF has happened to the arrogance? Is it just the more recent supporters who never experienced Carlton at its pomp? Or is it long term fans with not enough intestinal fortitude to ride out the rough times, and back their team? |

I think we've received a fair bit of respect since Friday night across the different media outlets. Of course their are the biased pricks who would never admit anything positive about Carlton, but that's just more heartache for them to endure, as we aren't going backwards in 2011. |

After we skin the cats the respect will come. But we still won't be as brave as Essendon*. |

The gushing over Judd is one thing but the lazy and dismissive attitude to those in the trenches with him is downright disrespectful. |

Rohan Connelly story in the Age manages to put negative spin on our form claiming whole team is riding on Judd's back. While there is some evidence for that view, he did not even mention the 'hard ball' and 'clearance' contribution of Curnow or Ellard on Saturday. But hey, why let the facts or any cursory attempt to research get in the way of slagging Carlton. Flower! |

Actually, I think Connolly was pretty measured in his article (http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/j ... 1e30l.html). His line is that when Judd plays brilliantly, then we seem to be just a one-man team, and people say Judd's efforts are what makes us win. Quote: But every time he does so, it also strengthens the perception they stand or fall on his efforts.
There are several factors contributing to Carlton's impressive start to this season, including the new stability of its defence with the addition of recruits Jeremy Laidler and Nick Duigan, and Andrew Walker's reinvention as a dangerous forward. |

Not a mention in the article of Ellard Curnow Murph Carrotts Scotto racking up 49 tackles, 58 contested possessions. Just another lazy 'journo' effort. |

i keep hearing the "if you didnt have Judd" line many times this weekend and i just laugh. My response is always the same - "If Argentina didnt have Maradona they wouldnt have won the World Cup...But they did have him and they did win the World Cup" |

On Sunday Dermie was talking about Brisbane and said "this team is carried by Black and Power...but thats okay", of course it is. Same day I read that Murphy and Gibbs need to match Judd for us to be any good...so, we just need 3 once-in-a-generation players in the one team? Not that Murphys going too badly though, but seriously. |

The best way for us to get respect is to win the flag. When I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, we were the team everyone hated, feared but also respected . It was not just good enough to make the finals. It was only a good year if we won the flag. I say stuff all the media and naysayers, let's stay singled focused on the what really matters, let's just win a flag. I really wanted us to be the team that eveyone hates because they fear us. Even when we are 5 goals down in the last quarter the opposition supporters are still worried we might come back. That is the Carlton I want to see !! C'mon you Bluebaggers !!!!!!! |
