Had the privilege of having a coffee with the great man today & the man is still in phenomenal shape & quite frankly I'd happily have him sitting in our forward pocket & I'll guarantee u he will not only kick goals but give us a stack more than Hammer & Hendo combined!

Apart from the greatest individual game he played againt the germs in the 99 prelim, he agreed that his next best game was in Ratts' 200th at OO when he demolished Carey & co & kicked 5 big ones!

As good as Judd is, he ain't in Kouta's league, this great man was the one we went to when we were in need, he took the huge mark & kicked the big goal!

Just remember the 95 qualifying final against Brisbane, it was this man that stepped up & kicked 2 late goals to break the deadlock & get us on our way & for me he was the Norm Smith medalist just ahead of the diesel!

He is our greatest ever....the great Koutaman!

I saw Kouta play some quarters of football that I don't think I'll see the likes of again (there was a game against West Coast that still makes me laugh - 18 posessions in the last quarter from memory) but at the end of their careers I think it'll be possible to reflect on them and recognize that Judd played around 1000 quarters of top grade football and Kouta played maybe 400.

Now that's a major dinner table debate and not really going to be done justice on a forum such as this. Anyway, here I go. Kouta was home grown and eternally loved. He offered much and arguably more because of his home grown status. Just as many kids, if not more, had number 43 on their backs as opposed to number 5 now. Remember the roar when he made his comeback at the Dome with the leg brace on and did his thing? Stirring stuff. He brought us much. Maybe not the same dollars. But he was Carlton and he was ours.

Yeah remember when Carey hit Kouta as hard as he could from the side when Kouta was running and bouncing the ball? Carey went down like a sack of of potatoes and Kouta just bounced off him and kept on running No need to put Juddy down. He's Teflon Chris when he's tackled.

Don't worry, I hear ya. I was spruiking Kouta as a champ here in WA as soon as I saw him play. After the 95 Granny his output was well below what it could have been. On his day an unstoppable force, better than Carey, better than Judd, better than Jezza? (nobody better than Jezza). 43 was popular but 25 would still be popular even if Fev hadn't worn it. If Kouta had his time again I'm certain he'd go the extra mile and be the champ he should have been.

As a teenager, Kouta was my favourite player... Loved the fact that a guy from my neck of the woods (Lalor) made it big.. By his early 20s, he was our posterboy, but unfortunately for him, after some massive seasons in 1995 and 1996, the illness and subsequent death of his father kind of derailed him for a few years.. I remember feeling sad seeing him plodding around in the backline and wondering if he'd ever reach the heights of 95/96 ever again... Then Prelim '99 Happened.... THE KOUTA WE KNEW AND LOVED WAS BACK!!! Season 2000 started slowly but then suddenly in about Round 4 or 5, it all clicked into place for the Great Man, and for the next 3 months, Kouta was near on if not BOG in every game and played football that was simply out of this world.. As good as Juddys been since he's been at Carlton, those 3 months in 2000 when Kouta was at the peak of his powers were better then anything Judd has produced in Navy Blue. The sadest thing for Kouta was that the two injuries he suffered in late 2000 and again in 2001 robbed us and the AFL of seeing him really reach his potential and dominate the game for an extended period of time like Judd has managed to do (appart from in 2007 when his groins blew up). For Kouta, it will always be a case of what might have been... I would say Judd is a better player overall because he's managed to play well consistently from Day 1. I can see though , why us Carlton people love Kouta so much and some may favour him over Judd. Kouta was 'our boy', we made him and enjoyed every minute of his rise. Juddy on the other hand, was already a phenomenon before he came to Carlton, and he himself has said that he feels that so far in his career, he has played his best footy at West Coast... I'm here... Kouta was a better kick and mark than Judd...Juddy is a better footballer and leader...Koutoufides wasn't a passenger between 1996 and 2000, but his form wasn't that great...Judd's dry spells are rare...Judd is a machine who is more driven and professional than any Carlton player I've seen...And that includes Bradley.

Kouta was cut down by injury, that's the only thing that prevents him being compared to Judd's consitancy, having said that, my biggest disappointment was never seeing the 2 great men in Judd & Kouta in the middle together, could u imagine that!!!! U remember once David Parkin saying that Kouta was the BEST clearance player he'd ever seen & I also remember Leigh Matthews being asked if he could clone an afl footballer who would it be, his response the Koutaman! I love Juddy, but for me, at their peaks NO man comes close to the Greek Adonis!!!
