They should have a podcast up soon but only caught patches of it. In terms of injuries
Hoops – 4-5 weeks
McLean – missed last week due to flu
Hendo & Bower – up for selection
Jamo – one more week as we all know
I missed one or two others.

Then my boss started talking to me ( ) and when I managed to get the earphones back in KB asked about the pressure he is feeling regarding extending his coaching tenure and I was disappointed with Brett’s response. Without recalling verbatim, it was the most defensive response I have heard from him, stating that the media are making up KPI’s that will keep him in the job and they are different to what he has been told and that he essentially feels the media are focussing on him more than the other OOC coaches and that it is probably unfair and should let him get on with his job

First time I have noticed obvious stress with this whole saga from Brett. Obviously taking its toll...

It was a pretty wide ranging interview I thought.
I'm pretty sure he didn't say the media are making up kpi's though although the leading question could be a case in point. In response to KB's initial question that stated that people were saying he needed to win two finals to keep his job and is the bar set too high? Ratten said he hadn't heard the two final one

Probably needs to play a deadbat in these interviews about his future, as no matter what he says people will see it the way they want to. Probably all he really needs to say, which he touched on...is that he can't control outside speculation , that he knows what the club expects and that he just wants to get on with coaching and the rest will take care of itself. Any deflection waffle will just get him into strife. He will get more practice answering this question, so short to the point move on...no matter how annoying it becomes.

Hoops could be a good secret weapon for the second half of season..assuming he'll need a little time for match fitness..but with him,Garlett, and Hendo firing...look out!
Can't wait to get some of these people back..especially big K.

Maybe someone can ask him whether he thinks that Ess structures and gameplan are more evident in one game than ours in 4 years. Don't ya all start jumping down my throat with this provocative comment.
I'll bet most Car supporters are thinking, "flower I hope this is just his honeymoon period or just a bit of adrenalin that will burst"

Anyway, let's revisit this when we play those flowering flowers. Beat them and we'll provide one of the pins to burst their arrogant bubble.

Why would anyone jump down your throat? You have already clearly stated that you weren't being provocative :?

In fairness to Ratts all talk has been that he has to win one final to keep his job. Bartlett just pulled the two winning finals out of his arse and Ratts corrected him. When asked about his job he basically said he'll concentrate on the team and trying to win games and the rest will take care of itself. It's a fair enough point that there are 6 other coaches coming off contract at the end of the year and some of them e.g. Worsfold and Voss would be a lot shakier that Ratten. I didn't think he came across as stressed or overly defensive, he didn't try to avoid the question, he gave an answer and moved on.

That was an awful response by Ratts to a softly lobbed 'tough question'.

Negotiating on the radio how many finals he's been told Carlton has to win for him to keep his job...just dumb.

He's been doing this for nearly 4 years, and he still struggles when put under any sort of pressure by the media. How well does he cope with the pressure of being senior coach?

It might be unfair to draw the comparison, but it's natural - convey conviction, calm, and self-knowledge and people will believe your confident and competent.

Disagree, he basically stated that his focus was on winning games of footy not to answer/defend his contract status or the so called media speculation on what was needed to keep his job!

No where has it been mentioned that he had to win two finals and he simply corrected KB on making stuff up!

The fact is Ratts is contracted to the end of the season end of story.....why does he have to answer this issue on every occasion especially after a win in the 1st round of the season????

Just typical muck racking from the tosser KB who is without doubt a knob of the highest order, if Ratts responded with real honesty he would have told KB what an arsehole he was.......so really he handled the question with a fair degree of diplomacy.

Ratts spoke better in that interview than Malthouse did on "On The Couch" last night. Malthouse was twitchie and all over the place.

Can those who've listened to it tell us more about the non-Rattens-Future things he might have said or was it all about his future and the injuries ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I thought Ratten had some media training over Summer? His response to Bartletts comment about having to win 2 finals was incredibly defensive and the worst bit was 'I'd like to know who's saying that'. Im not sure if Bartlett was stirring the pot or just got his information wrong but Ratten shouldn't be saying things like that. Its undignified.

I don't think Ratten's response was undignified at all. I think he was simply correcting KB for quoting a rumour that was not correct and went on to say how his focus is on the game coming up, not his contract negotiations.

Caro seems to do it all the time as well during interviews, she puts a question forward based on a rumour or 'one of her sources' as if its fact. It's incredibly annoying.
