Post subject: | The Ten Big Questions of 2011 |
What are the ten main questions you are eagerly awaiting answers to in season 2011, with respect to the Carlton Football Club? Here are mine... (in no order)... 1. How will Bryce Gibbs fare playing largely on-ball? 2. Will Hammer take a significant step up after years of making only incremental progress? 3. Will Brock Mclean get his body right and have a significant contribution to the team in 2011? 4. Will Kurez make a successful come back? 5. Will we really start to develop a consistent back six, one of the hallmarks of a very good side? 6. Will Warnock become a star of the AFL? 7. Will Yarran continue his exceptional form playing off HB or will he struggle in the real games and when teams try to negate his influence? 8. Will Robbo take a step up and become a lock for a midfield spot week in week out? (I reckon his midfield form has been very encouraging this off season) 9. Will Tex make it as a forward? 10. Will Austin get on the park and make some serious advancements as a senior footballer or will he be cut at seasons end? |

Sugarcane wrote: 1. How will Bryce Gibbs fare playing largely on-ball? All up to Bryce. Has the body, the kick, the smarts and the other skills to excel inside and spreading from the contest. Question is does he have the work ethic and confidence to execute? Quote: 2. Will Hammer take a significant step up after years of making only incremental progress? Already has, and short of any set backs it should stick (like his marks). Quote: 3. Will Brock Mclean get his body right and have a significant contribution to the team in 2011? He's a good chance. The patient and careful approach has been taken. If he's in the team and remotely fit he can make (and has made) a contribution. Quote: 4. Will Kurez make a successful come back? Yes, we rebuilt him (we have the technology) and he looks after himself extremely well, which is what has made him such a success so early on in his career. Quote: 5. Will we really start to develop a consistent back six, one of the hallmarks of a very good side? I think we had a consistent back six barring injury, it just had consistent flaws. Those flaws will still be about this season, but at the very worst we have game planned around them and recruited to eliminate them in future. Quote: 6. Will Warnock become a star of the AFL? Maybe, but he'll definitely be a quality ruckman whether it be this year or subsequently. Quote: 7. Will Yarran continue his exceptional form playing off HB or will he struggle in the real games and when teams try to negate his influence? I think it will be a mixed bag depending on the midfield's effort, but his own efforts on Saturday in difficult (albeit dry) conditions indicate that if he has the fitness for the position he will be a real plus for us. Quote: 8. Will Robbo take a step up and become a lock for a midfield spot week in week out? (I reckon his midfield form has been very encouraging this off season) No. Still has more work to do on the physical side of things that require more time. Will still make a good lot of appearances, particularly with Ellard, Carrazzo, Houlihan & Brock out of the mix early. Quote: 9. Will Tex make it as a forward? Yes. It's easily his best position on the ground until he shows real physicality again in a midfield role, and I for one have been advocating for him to play the role for some time. Quote: 10. Will Austin get on the park and make some serious advancements as a senior footballer or will he be cut at seasons end? I fear he may struggle to be in the mix even if he is fit. Like Thornton he has some difficult knocks against him to shake, but he is a talented player who still has the potential to cause trouble at either CHB or CHF. At the moment CHB seems to be more his comfort zone and if Bower can't lock down an opponent when playing there it is up for grabs. Having said that I think he is ahead of about 4 or 5 names before being cut (contracts withstanding) so he could yet remain on the list. Only some serious chest puffing will get him onto our rookie list under current rules, as several clubs would love to give him a go. |

1. How will Bryce Gibbs fare playing largely on-ball? dont think so he will back in defence bymid year 2. Will Hammer take a significant step up after years of making only incremental progress? if he can make them stick he will be brilliant his ruck work is already good 3. Will Brock Mclean get his body right and have a significant contribution to the team in 2011? if he plays most games and contributes we will finish top 4 4. Will Kurez make a successful come back? he will come back but next year will be better 5. Will we really start to develop a consistent back six, one of the hallmarks of a very good side? not yet still a year or two away 6. Will Warnock become a star of the AFL? not this year but will improve 7. Will Yarran continue his exceptional form playing off HB or will he struggle in the real games and when teams try to negate his influence? he will be good wont say he will struggle but will find it harder cant see him copping a hard tag off half back 8. Will Robbo take a step up and become a lock for a midfield spot week in week out? (I reckon his midfield form has been very encouraging this off season) will get better but wont make midfield this year 9. Will Tex make it as a forward? no 10. Will Austin get on the park and make some serious advancements as a senior footballer or will he be cut at seasons end? hope so but dont hold to much hope |

Reckon there's only one question. Who's gonna kick the goals ? Yes,i know, there's Eddie, and there's Jeffie, and now they have plonked Andy down there. And that trio will go pretty well. But its not a basis to build a forward line around.Ya gotta get that power forward thing going ie.Buddie and Roughie,Cloke and Dawes...............Gotta find a couple or we will continue to be round about, but not be dangerous. |

I think we're ok for scoring opportunities and I50s Mick, just got to move the ball better from HB at times. With Laidler's left foot, Armfield set to be further afield and working on his disposal, plus Yarran I think we've tinkered enough with that side of things to get some better results in the coast-to-coast stakes. Duigan comes in for the time being and helps provide more contests, thus more turnovers. |

Eddie's just lost confidence in his set shot. He used to be a dead eye dick from 35. Waite is generally ok, Lachie is as clean a kick as you'll see and Garlett is superb. Then there's Murphy, Houla & Collins. Even Walker has been in good form. The blokes who seriously need to work on some aspect of their shots at goal are Simpson and Judd. They both manage to get a lot of opportunities and neither seem to have much in the way of a technique to steer the ball, although Simpson does ok from the left flank. |

1) Can we stop teams from going "coast to coast" from their defence? 2) Can we get the @#$%&! ball out of our own kickouts without it bouncing straight in again? 3) Can we stop coughing up goals in time-on? 4) Can Jarrad not get himself suspended? 5) Can stop getting blown away in the first, or last quarter? 6) Can we go the season without losing any of our talls to a shoulder/knee injury? 7) Can Murph and GIBBS eclipse Judd for once? 8 ) Can we go a full season without anyone getting on the front page for all the wrong reasons? 9) Can we actually beat those middle of the road teams (Sydney, Norf, Hawthorn) like we're supposed to? 10) Can Hendo start gobbling those marks he gets into position for? Bonus: Can we survive the onslaught of Divine Awesomeness that is James Hird when we play against those wonderful ambassadors from Windy Hill? |
