...is so much easier than being a Carlton member!

Compare & Contrast:

http://membership.collingwoodfc.com.au/
http://www.carltonfc.com.au/membership/ ... fault.aspx

I checked out both the Carltonfc and Collingwoodfc membership pages for comparison purposes this morning and the differences are mindboggling - there's is much better and more intuitive than ours. It is perfect, gives those who prefer to fill in forms manually the ability to download forms straight away and gives those who prefer to do it online the right information and makes it easy.

How much would it cost the Club to get a freelance web designer in and throw $$ at them and say copy that page structure except with Carlton information? It just looks like someone at the Club has looked at ours and said 'its good enough' rather than really make a statement.

Isn't it a bannable offence to post links to offensive websites? :sly:

There maybe 1 or 2 highly qualified TCers who would do it for next to nothing.

Look, I'm not in Melb so I may be off the mark, but the club is comming off a period where it was at it's lowest in terms of on-field and off-field performance.

If you think of the basket case that Eddie inherited at the 'Pies the club had some relatively quick on-field success (losing two grand finals is considered a success at the black and whites) but it took years for the club to regain it's status as a (or the) power club in melb.

Money helps, but throwing money at things will give you a quick result in some areas, but others take a sustained effort.

All we can hope for is continued improvement.

We need fresh blood with fresh ideas, its all about continuous improvement - if you dont improve in all facets you will plateau then fall away.

I've been reading and hearing quite a few things like this lately. The other day it was how our membership extras aren't as good as other clubs'. Personally I don't join up because the process is a convenience, or for the free gifts that come with it. I join to support the club. Things like free hats and fridge magnets don't matter one iota to me. Nor does the website. If a 'supporter' needs free presents to entice them to join, or they don't join because the website isn't as easy as another club's...well, really...

That's a somewhat different debate altogether though. I can understand what Molsey means from a marketing perspective. I personally don't find our club website as a whole to be a problem, each time I go on there I can usually find what I'm looking for relatively quickly. I never renew my membership online there anyway, but one way to drive people away from joining is to scare them away with a difficult sign-up process. Particularly some of the older crowd who aren't as technologically savvy and struggle with computers...it needs to be user-friendly for everyone to attract as many as possible. The only difference I noticed with Collingwood's page was that it was much more "colourful" but had much the same as ours anyway. As for the forms being readily available...again, it wouldn't be a problem to me to go one click further and download one, but I guess people want this content straight away.

I buy three Carlton memberships and one Essendon* membership (damn fool kid!) a year. Essendon*'s online renewal process is much easier.

To be fair, I would suggest the rivals listed NEED a much simpler process. It's really about the demographics you have to address as a target market ;-)

Captain Dan, the club already HAS the diehards who sign up every year, no matter how difficult it may be for them.

But the growth will come from the next levels... People for whom the 'little things' matter.

If you make it easy, you're sending the message that we really want you. Make it hard, and you're saying the opposite.

We want to get anywhere near collingwoods numbers, that's what we have to do.

(and get out of Collo's place, but that's a whole different discussion)

Gee our membership site is not very sexy at all. Defo could do with makeover and the idea of being able to see the member package without having to click thru again should be looked at. I know its gimmicky but some sort of Baby Blue membership should be an option, developing the 'brand' with the little tackers could translate into more memberships in time.

I thought all that stuff came with the Telstra/Bigpond sponsorship of Club pages. As such, you would think that all the clubs' membership pages should be the same.

Are Bigpond playing favourites, or have Collingwood tipped in some extra cash for theirs?

It's still there
