Ran the politically correct line about having practice match with GWS - ie good to fly interstate -good to play at an AFL venue -good that the change rooms were AFL standard  - mentioned everything was good except for what happened on the field :hitcomputer: - what he didnt say suggests that we got absolutely nothing out of practice match on the field

One good thing was he was spruiking this weeks practice match at PP against a genuine opposition and mentioned that they hoped Hendo was going to start

Stephen Icke talking about football matters on SEN ! Shit,i thought that was Swann's job.
It was actually good to hear the man running the footy dept. speak publicly about whats going.I actually think Icke is a good operator and i believe we dont hear nearl enough of Stephen in public.Still,it must be tough trying to get a bit of the limelight from the self proclaimed footy messiah Swann.Hopefully this is the sign of things to come.Stay up the front office Swann where you belong.

Its funny you mention that about Swann as a few of the boys that I know that go to the club often believe that Swann is too involved with trying to be involved with running the footy departmnet, rather than the club's finances.

Correct Bomba.Been onto this from the day he stepped into the place.Absolutely ridiculous situation .He's either CEO or Footy manager. For mine its concentrate on the front of house or see you later.

Having more of a say in the footy dept is one of the reasons he left Collingwood.

Apparently Swann was told to pull his head in by McGuire and Malthouse and he didnt like it, so when the Carlton gig came along he jumped at it especially with all the trimmings.

Correct again Bomba.Once again alerted you to this early................................and how ridiculously idiotic were we to take him on with his intentions. Can someone in the footy club explain why he was employed on the basis of being heavily involved in the footy department.Plain crazy and they need to get it sorted out pronto.

May need to get Cook from Geelong down to the Blues - I am sure one of our wealthier supporters could bankroll this i.e. Bruce Matheson???

Dick Pratt could explain but he is deceased. My memory of events was that Dick approached Fitzy and asked him who was the best CEO, Cook was the first answer he gave and then Swann. We possibly could have had Cook and no Judd or Swann and Judd. I know which scenario I prefer.

Mick

I have had limited dealings with Swann but think he is ok vis a vis other CEOs I have for instances dealt with Brendan Gale as well(in another life) and whilst he has got a football background not sure he is as astute in other ways as Swann .I have also tangentially dealt with Arroca from North and think Swann is indeed better than him

Havent personally dealt with Cook but from all reports (non football reports ) he is excellent

However I do think we should be on the outlook for the next CEO after Swann to ensure there is no void once he goes

We also need to be on the look out for fresh talent at Board level with Andy Penn leaving AXA after takeover he would be an excellent addition to the Board

It's a sound strategy match your management to your clubs needs at a certain period of time. As organisations evolve very few are able to keep the same CEO's etc for extended periods of time, particularly if the club needs a huge shake-up.

I believe Swann started at the "pies when they were a basket case, just like at Carlton.

It may well be the case that Swann is a "change manager" i.e. someone bought in to shake things up, and lay a template for sucess in the future. I've known guy's who's entire career was being brought in to smash the internal workings of companies and remould them in a more effective design. After 1-3 years they move on and do it somewhere else.

After that different management maybe needed to take the club forward.

I don't know if Swann is the best person to be CEO for the next 5 years, but he was certainly an important part of our improvement in the last 4.

Steve Rosich at Freo is the next Cook. The only thing maybe going against him is the Melbourne market. He's smart smart, a strategic thinker, his people are fiercely loyal to him and people (in Perth at least) really like dealing with him.

Outstanding talent.

Got no problems with Swann as CEO Frank. In fact i think is a likeable, personable sort of bloke.Problem with Swann is he's a "footy head".The bloke just loves it.Problem is he doesnt have the knowledge for it.Not saying he knows nothing, but he has to leave it to the footy manager, coach etc. There is no surer recipe for disaster in a footy club than every man and his dog sticking there treacle beak into whats going on on the footyground.Ask anyone whos been around a footy club for a while and they will all tell you the same............its the CEO's job to keep everyone working in there particular area of expertise. And the only way to do that is by leading by example.

I don't know Iagree with you. He's in the Chair now and asan outsider the club appearstobeon the right track. We are certainly a much better club than when he got there.

Just because a guy has his fingers in everything does not mean he's doing a bad job.

He may well be the best at everything.

The truth is this is all hearsay and speculation from second hand sources. He appears to have had a big influence on some very big decisions including getting Judd , getting good assistants, and the Fev masterstroke. I find his media style refreshing and he does not let anyone hang sh1t on us. Not bad for a non-blue.
I'm happy for him to stay as long as we continue toimprove. It'sthat simple

What is it with TC? Always trying to get people sacked, and the season has not even started. :donk:

Swann has done a great job so far, I just wish he'd have a look at our membership and communications departments.
