http://spiritofcarlton.com/blog/2011/02 ... inet-news/ There has been great progress on the upcoming CFC/SOC display cabinet. If you around the club tomorrow keep an eye out for some activity opposite the giant picture of Jezza. Within the next few days the entire display should be complete. This is a wonderful project of mutual cooperation between the Carlton Football Club and the Spirit of Carlton. We cannot give too much away at this stage about the contents of the first display. However, one of the exciting additions is never before seen, behind the scenes video footage of premiership celebrations. You will get to see what it is like in the rooms after a Carlton premiership. I'll use this thread to keep everyone updated about the progress of the new display. ![]() |

Sounds like a fantastic addition to the surroundings. Perhaps the first exhibits of a sporting museum? |

This will be a display cabinet that will have revolving themed displays in it, hopefully at least a couple a year. A full sized museum is at least a few years away, if ever. Sadly, there is simply not enough memorabilia available at the moment to be able to fill even a small museum. This new facility will be a great place to spend a few minutes and see some excellent memorabilia and multimedia set around a specific theme. I noticed at the last practice game that a lot of people were wandering around the foyer, this will add to the area and be a great place for Carlton supporters and anyone wanting to influence/recruit young Carlton supporters. It will not be a full on museum for the history buffs, but it will still be a positive addition to the club. |

Carlton may not have alot of memorabilia as such but I am sure that there are a lot of supporters out there who would be more than happy to lend bits and pieces for displays. I personally have a stack of stuff sitting at home from our premierships that can be borrowed for events such as the upcoming 1981-82 GF reunion. I have been collecting Carlton stuff since I was at primary school and have things that may complement such events. |

sounds great, you would think that if a call went out for items to go in a museum that we would quickly fill a small room at least? You start with large objects, old warm down bench, dressing gown that sort of stuff, throw in some of the old lockers (where are they?) old row of seats from the Heatley Stand, premiership flags hanging from the ceiling, a range of different trophies, photo displays, Bruce Doulls headband, koutas boots, fraser browns tackle ![]() You get the idea |

I think Kerna may have said at the last AGM that they cant afford it to have a permanent museum???? |

I haven't seen the current facilities to determine if there is room, but if you had a venue it wouldn't have to be open daily |

You could make room if you wanted - doesnt have to be massive (well not intially anyway) Nearly everyone stops to look at the premiership cup display, would look great - even Hawthorn has one!!! |

That's why I said sporting museum, not Carlton museum. ![]() I think there's an opportunity to develop it into something else entirely, just not quite sure what you could do there as yet. We have a sporting rich city, yet I can only think of three sporting museums. |

I'm not sure a sporting museum would be an ideal fit in the Carlton Football Club complex. The only reason to run a sporting museum at the club would be to generate profit for the club. The museum at the MCG is at a neutral sporting venue, at an iconic location, has very strong sponsorship and goodwill, excellent parking and public transport yet even it scraped through with a small profit over the last two years. |

Yeah the only thing I'm coming up with is something that works in with the existing equipment in the place as some sort of sport science effort, but the equipment's too expensive at this point to have a bunch of kids mucking around on it. The club needs to develop the complex more to allow for retail opportunities. |

Where's the bloody emblem on the outside of the facility!? Why haven't they actually finished the redevelopment and included that bold CFC emblem which was emblazoned across all the renders!? ![]() |

The idea of a museum is to display our proud heritage thus enhancing the Carlton brand. The monetary benefits are captured in other ways such as increased purchase of membership, merchandise, attendance at club events etc. |

How does the bomber one operate, I suppose they have a TAB / pokies / restaurant so its always staffed. I woudl imagine their souvenir / merchandise shop woudl do okay from the Bombers museum visitors. Maybe I am a dreamer, but I would love to see some sort of permanent museum at PP dedicated to our proud history. I know there is no bottomless pit of money, but its soemthing the club shoudl seriously consider. The new addition at teh club i beleive is SOC driven and not by the club who couldnt care less if it was there or not??? |

There are many people out there who have Carlton memorabilia at their home who would prefer to 'share' it and see it housed in a museum. These people have never been approached - I know because I'm one of them, and I know of people who have much more stuff than I do. Even our President was presented with his 1987 Premiership jumper from Jimmy Buckley at the Spirit of Carlton Golf Day (it had been lying around at JB's house for 20-odd years), and whilst he might like it for his own study - I'm pretty sure he'd loan it out to the Museum...especially in 2012, the 25th anniversary of the '87 win. (My idea for the 1987 window display is very interactive. Members pay $20 to drink a Yard glass of Melbourne Bitter...they must then perform a sing-along with Sticks to the Tammy Wynette classic 'Stand by Your Man' and when finished are presented with a bootleg recording of their performance on a limited edition cassette tape)...however I digress... Quite simply, the main reason why there isn't a 'Carlton Museum' is three-fold. The perfect space for such a housing of memorabilia is utilized by another sporting body and they pay good money to house their property there. Secondly, the club would have to either add to Tony DeBolfo's salary or hire a full-time curator to the position. Lastly, and justifiably so; it's not in the high-to-medium priorities of the club and most likely isn't written into the new strategic plan. I would even doubt an estimated costing of such a project has been done. Unless we had a wealthy benefactor who ponied up the money strictly for the creation of a Carlton Museum, it won't come to fruition and certainly won't become an executive level agenda item under the current administration. |

Besides the GF and the after match stuff which is fantastic as I have had the privilege of viewing some of this footage already, what else can we expect to be on display? |

Sorry Bomba, cannot give too much away at this stage as we anticipate that the club will want to make a formal launch of the display. |
