After years of searching I have a cause to campaign for: Matthew Watson should be the new "BOOF!":
a) he can kick it (what a kick in to the centre circle!)
b) his head (sorry, that's a bit mean...)

And as I have stated elsewhere, we cannot let Lou Richards get away with changing it to a wimpy woof (as he did with Ange). When we used to "Boof!" Val Perovic it was magic. I was there.

All of my memories of Perra and Ang were ''WOOF''

I don't recall anyone yelling BOOF.....which is derogatory anyway......

The Blues supportesr for a short amount of time borrowed the Reidddddddddd anytime that Bruce Reid was in the play - but it was no where as highly used as when the Big 'Slav launched one of his bombs out of defence.

Be careful of what you read in the press (especially if it's the small paper - see Sun translator thread!). Much better to trust a memory from 30 something years ago!

Maybe true today, but not so much when that was written. 'Back in the day' the journo would have got that straight from the horses mouth...more than likely at footballer owned watering hole...in this case he's backed it up with a quote from Collo.

Drove the poor bastard to drink...

Wasn't that at the Cricketers Arms in Clarendon St Sth Melbourne - the Publican was Brian 'Whale' Roberts (ex Rich & Sth)

His pub's slogan was have an ale with the whale

And Val walked out of the pub. It wasn't the cricketers on Clarendon, it was the Duke of Wellington on Flinders st.

Correct.

These days that corner building looks miniscule against the backdrop of skyscapers.
It doesn't look like it could store 37 cans let alone a bloke drinking them too.

Great little corner store.....memories

Yep i remember reading that sign in the Duke.

Unbelievable effort. I've always wondered where it should rank vs Boon on the plane. I guess it's a sprint vs marathon debate.

Watson - that passage of play on the wing Saturday night put a big smile on my face. I think we've found one. Ideally I'd have thought to give him a year in the 2s to acclimatise a little more gradually, but he may end up proving that philosophy wrong.

That plaque was originally in the Cricketers in Sth Melb. The scene of the deed. The Whale took it with him to the D.O.W.

I wonder what has happened to the plaque seeing that the D.O.W. is no longer a pub but inner-city apartments these days????

I believe this deed was done on the 17th Sept 1984.

I believe it was the Cricket Club Hotel in Clarendon St Sth Melb
