Yeah...definitely going. And already pre-ordered my print. Unbelievably Dinner and poster will cost approx $810...whereas I think it cost about $4 to get a 7 year old to the 1981 Grand Final... :screwy:

The back to back Carlton Premieship Sides of 1981/1982 have been grossly ignored and undervalued in the Pantheon of great sides of the modern era.

The main perpetrator’s of this being “The Sun’s” Chief Football Writer at the time Tom Prior  who hated Carlton’s guts and never gave this side the credit it deserved and when Essendon* went back to back a few years later he and the Lou Richards  (who he ghost wrote for) couldn’t wait to start going on about the great Essendon* side of 84/85 – and what a great feat the back to back premiership was, ignoring the fact that we won back to back in 81/82 and realistically had actually won 3 premierships in 4 years.

There were champions on every line – and it made Triple Premiership players out of:

- Wayne Harmes
- Wayne Johnston
- Ken Sheldon
- Mike Fitzpatrick
- Peter McConville
- Mark Maclure
- Jim Buckley
- Alex Marcou
- David McKay & Bruce Doull actually were 4 time Premiership Players courtesy of 1981 and 1982 respectively.

Our 81/82 Premiership Side should rightly hold its head up as one of the greatest sides of the modern era – rarely beaten or troubled and generally winning games with unbelievable avalanches of goals in about 10 minutes during the third quarter.

It is one of the reasons why we are so hated by opposition supporters today – and one of the reasons why they have revelled in our lack of success this passing decade – we used to shit opposition supporters to tears on the terraces of Princes Park – they would be up at half time and at ¾ time we would be giving them very friendly send offs  as they trudged off home.

So rightly celebrate this group of premiership players and for those not old enough to remember ask someone and for those old enough to remember make sure you stand up for these boys the next time your having a drink at the local and the argument turns to which was the best side of the modern era.

I had the honour of supporting Carlton in this period it was fantastic and is where my fondest memories of Carlton lay (79 - 82). I had seen the Blues win 3 flags before my thirteenth birthday, as stated by Agro we had champions on every line and one of the all time greatest defences. the mosquito and on-ballers were awesome and we didnt rely on a forward to kick all our goals. We basically had Maclure as a KPP and the rest were flankers, on-ballers and fill-in players who could play each end of teh ground and kick goals e.g. McKay, Hunter, McConville etc

I remember sometimes sitting up in the old Heatley Stand and some of teh third quarters were awesome, the premiership quarter was something that originated from the teams of this era. The atmosphere from teh Heatley and when the 'rumble' was happening it was sensational (the rumble was when the supporters would stomp their feet on wooden flooring of the Heatley). we had extroverts who lapped this up like Bosustow and Johnston.

As a young lad I was spoilt rotten with flags and whilst I despite our lack of success of late and 3 wooden spoons, i have seen 5 Blues flags live at the MCG. This era was magnificent and held dear by those lucky enough to be around to enjoy it.

PS:- i will be going to teh dinner as well
