The back to back Carlton Premieship Sides of 1981/1982 have been grossly ignored and undervalued in the Pantheon of great sides of the modern era.
The main perpetrator’s of this being “The Sun’s” Chief Football Writer at the time Tom Prior

who hated Carlton’s guts and never gave this side the credit it deserved and when Essendon* went back to back a few years later he and the Lou Richards

(who he ghost wrote for) couldn’t wait to start going on about the great Essendon* side of 84/85 – and what a great feat the back to back premiership was, ignoring the fact that we won back to back in 81/82 and realistically had actually won 3 premierships in 4 years.
There were champions on every line – and it made Triple Premiership players out of:
- Wayne Harmes
- Wayne Johnston
- Ken Sheldon
- Mike Fitzpatrick
- Peter McConville
- Mark Maclure
- Jim Buckley
- Alex Marcou
- David McKay & Bruce Doull actually were 4 time Premiership Players courtesy of 1981 and 1982 respectively.
Our 81/82 Premiership Side should rightly hold its head up as one of the greatest sides of the modern era – rarely beaten or troubled and generally winning games with unbelievable avalanches of goals in about 10 minutes during the third quarter.
It is one of the reasons why we are so hated by opposition supporters today – and one of the reasons why they have revelled in our lack of success this passing decade – we used to shit opposition supporters to tears on the terraces of Princes Park – they would be up at half time and at ¾ time we would be giving them very friendly send offs

as they trudged off home.
So rightly celebrate this group of premiership players and for those not old enough to remember ask someone and for those old enough to remember make sure you stand up for these boys the next time your having a drink at the local and the argument turns to which was the best side of the modern era.
