"A former No.1 draft pick, he is earmarked for a leadership role at GWS and will be offered a multi-million-dollar deal to head to western Sydney after he was left out of Carlton's leadership group this year." Wonder why he was left out of the leadership group ? |

I was waiting for something like this to happen. Now let the fun and innuendo begin. We can't allow this to go on and on like the Ablett saga. Sign him up or let him play in the Ants all year. Either he will want to be part of the club or he won't. His desire to do something with the group he has grown up with will prey on his mind. Ablett had already given his two bob's worth to Geelong and helped them to two cups. Murphy may want to do the same with Carlton. Only he will know. He will have been approached during the 'window' that GWS had to approach uncontracted players so he can't plead ignorance once that 'window' closes. Ratts has to look him in the eye and just as him if he has signed or not. If he can't get a satisfactory response in either direction, he should just give him the options available regarding his 2011 season and give him a deadline. If I were he, I'd take the money. He might break his leg in a year and never play again. A sportsperson has to earn as much as possible in the shortest time available to set him/herself up for the next 50 years of life. Loyalty to one's family and self comes before loyalty to a football club. Meanwhile, if he does decide to go, we have to develop a game plan around his absence for the next eight years. Both he and the MC have to bite the bullet and get realistic here. If he stays it would be fantastic for the club and for his image among footy supporters but it will cost him financially for the rest of his life. Is is a huge decision for a young kid and not one to be left to him alone I hope his management isn't only concerned for their 5% or he will not get unbiased advice. He is not indispensable. Nobody is. But it would leave a gaping hole for someone to try and fill. |

He's not worth that much money, GWS will find bigger targets to go after. |

You could pay me a million dollars a year and I still wouldnt live in West Sydney. Whats hutchy's strike rate for making calls like these. Can't see it happening |

No Chance........ Mark my words. If and if he ever wanted to leave he would have signed with Brisbane as a father\son. He opted to stay in Melbourne coz of his family and friends. WILL NOT BE GOING ANYWHERE 100% |

It is an interesting scenario given he turned down a lucrative long term contract from Brisbane before he had even played a game to stay in Melbourne. |

Can I just clarify when the out-of-contract players window for GWS is/was? |

I think it will all go back to the Brisbane decision: IF Murphy chose Carlton b/c of family, friends etc, then he will stay at Carlton. IF, however, he chose Carlton ahead of the Lions b/c they were chock full of highly paid stars whereas at Carlton, with none, he was sure to get a bigger slice of the pie, then he may well go to GWS. FWIW, the feel I got at the time was the former, but who knows what's really going on away from the spotlight??! In any event, I think we'll know sooner than the Cats/Ablett decision. There were a bunch of 'targets' released early re GC and most of them were followed by a re-signing with their existing clubs (Reiwoldt, Franklin, Selwood, Gibbs, ...IIRC). It was only after this batch that the 'disgruntled' batch began leaking out but much later in the piece. I am more worried about the players NOT being mentioned at this stage. |

TruBlueBrad wrote: Its going to be a very very long season. ![]() Lets just get him signed before the season starts then. There are 3 parties that can make it a long drawn out season or not, Marc, his manager and the club. I'm sure the club don't want it to drag out. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is my xmas prayer. Today is the 12th of December. I couldn't bear to read post after post of angst about this hypothetical beatup for the next 11 months. I propose that any thread on this matter be deleted based on the fact that it is a waste of space. If supporters fuel the flames the SEN frenzy will begin. The headline is a paper seller. Don't feed the media beast. Amen. Regards Cazzesman |

![]() I think we all are starting to understand that the number of player transfers from all clubs will only increase and we need to understand that there will be movement from our players as well so getting all wound about transfer talk is just a waste of energy. If one highly rated player moves on we have salary cap room to bring another highly rated player in. Footy is a now a profession on-field and of-field. Players will come and players will go. |

..^^^^^.. ..agree, don't wanna really read post after post of us all freakin' out.. ..unfortunately, such a sensitive/worrisome issue is gonna make all wanna talk about it, hopin' someone will reassure us.. ..personally [totally from the outside] i don't think he'll move.. ..but gsw having 2 yrs to 'poach' players is freakin' ridiculous.. ..this article was like the earlier one regardin' d.swan.. ..sooner or later they'll get one right.. |
