What players come to mind when you think about opposition specialists? The players that would play well more or less every time they fronted up against a given team. Here are a few of mine: Lappin- Used to play well more often than not against the Bombers. From his screamer in 1999 to his game-changing moments in 2001, he always turned it on against this mob. Silvagni- A great player all round, but one element of his game that sticks out was his ability to keep Gary Ablett Snr quiet. The 1995 Grand Final, a perfect example of this. It was no easy feat for any backman to front up against Ablett in those times, and to keep him goalless is another feather in SOS' cap. Silvagni was Ablett's bogey player, and you could even argue that Geelong were too. Fevola- Towards the latter stages of his Carlton career, I find it hard to pick out a game against either Collingwood or Essendon* that he didn't fire with 6 or more goals. Playing on blokes like Mal Michael and Dustin Fletcher, he would always carve them up. Can remember one instance against the Pies where he didn't have a great night, and that was when Presti kept his influence down. The other time I can remember where he kicked under 5 goals against the Bombers was the night he kicked 4 goals 7, or something like that. Nonetheless, he always got plenty of the ball against these two sides, and was the difference in a lot of the games. |

Sticks had a soft spot for the Bombers almost like Johnston had for the 'Pies. |
