http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/b ... 5956542670 Quote: Carlton coach Brett Ratten said the club was determined to protect McLean, who Ratten says was his own worst enemy last season. "We'll take it slow with Brock," Ratten said. Couldn't Ratts have put that another way? ![]() Quote: "I think he probably did too much too early and created some of the injuries because he pushed himself to earn respect." That's admirable, but weren't the much lauded conditioning staff monitoring his training load closely, considering his history of injuries? ![]() |

That little addendum on Lachie speaks so much of the young man. Such a brilliant deal for Carlton Football Club! |

Rexy wrote: That's admirable, but weren't the much lauded conditioning staff monitoring his training load closely, considering his history of injuries? ![]() That's a pretty difficult thing to monitor when you've got more than one doctor giving the thumbs up and a player doing his 6th preseason saying he's feeling great. What they should have been more mindful of was that the player was coming to them from the Melbourne FC...a place hardly renowned for it's medical nor conditioning staff for some time. What is noticeable to the trained eye is that the ankle injuries sustained have definitely caused some changes to the McLean running gait, so he's now got to be more mindful of injuries such as stress fracture, achilles pain or the dreaded plantar fasciitis. Once poor technique or biomechanical problems causes poor technique - it's hard to go back to doing it correctly. He'll need to keep up his physio sessions, ice up those legs and go in for more MRI scans. And for recovery...he should be on the underwater treadmill as often as possible. ![]() |

Not to mention his IT bands. That will get you every time if you push too hard to early. Hips and knees copping most the friction. I have had both Plantar Fasciitis and ITB friction syndrome and both are shockers. Brock had an IT band release towards the end of last season. Hope he doesnt have to deal with that again. Reckon the club are doing the right thing this year. |

Yep; agree about Plantar Fasciitis.....bloody painful affliction; and the Specialist I saw said ''This usually takes 2 years of treatment''; which primarily consists of Cortisone injections in the heel; and specialised exercises......he was right. |

That's supposed to be good for plantar fasciitis.....it was said that Robert Harvey whilst at St.Kilda; used to keep jumping off a kitchen chair to try to stretch the tendon.....pretty extreme I reckon. |

Harvey did it to break the tendon which was inflamed. Mitch Hahn had it for a season and then broke the tendon playing. Missed the next week and then returned without any plantar issues. |
