There was apparently a rumour from Whispers on 3AW that Kernahan will be stepping down as President at tonight's Best and Fairest (or at least that this will be his last Best and Fairest as President). Can anybody shed any light?

No disrespect to Kernahan, he is a legend of this Club, but please let this be true (and of course have a strong replacement to take over the role).

Doesn't look like it going by his speech tonight

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/newsar ... fault.aspx

It looks as though we have a 2011 slogan though going by the headline

The Club has finally thrown off the malaise that afflicted it since 1999.

Sticks deserves a lot of the credit.

I hope he's not leaving.

People forget that even Sticks himself always said he was a temporary president until the right person for the job came along. He didn't backstab to get his way into presidency, nor did he twist any arms. Sticks did it due to the Pratt fiasco.

If he is standing down as president, I'm guessing it means someone can come straight into the role as the right person has been found.

True - How long does it take to find a suitable replacement? Are we really lacking someone out there to take our mighty club further. I thought temporary was for about a few months - not this long. Seriously there must be someone out there.

99% of the credit belongs to Richard Pratt. His money made everything possible.
Sticks is a great Carlton man but he's not a progressive president. The CFC has stood still since Richard departed. We need new ideas, a ruthless attitude and a willingness to be industry leaders.

We spend our time following what others do, especially in the coaches box. By the time we've caught up, the others have moved ahead.

I hope Sticks stays on in a minor capacity and remains a prominent Carlton figure but it's time we set our sights a bit higher.

I doubt very much that sticks is looking out for other candidates - that's the job of the board.

At the moment there doesn't seem to be any pressure or urgency for Sticks to justify his performance - he's in cruise control.

Any talk of him being a 'temporary' president is all just spin.

The review will ascertain what steps need to be taken and will probably recommend that Ratten remain coach for season 2011. A senior mentor to Ratten may be appointed at the expense of two of our current assistants. That's just my take.

Sticks (and Board) just need to find a role that suits him and he can perform on a part-time basis. He doesn't feel he's 'coaching material' and would prefer to leave that to people who are qualified. I would like to see him mentor Lachie Henderson - particularly in using his body to outposition his opponent. Chances are there's a Business Development role there somewhere for Sticks - and if Synbad were here, he'd say 'Kernahan knows nothing about business', but as I saw first hand during a night with some Malaysian government officials last year, Sticks is very good at understanding the marriage between corporate sponsorship and football club and could still be a great asset to the club in a semi-regular capacity.

I think you'll find that the whisper wasn't about Sticks.

Care to whisper what the actual whisper was?
Are you referring to someone at Carlton or Bomber Thompson?

They kept saying things like "stick to the story" or "stick in the mud" etc.....not "sticks"

Warnock: built like a stick.

S.Icke.

Kernahan, Sticks.

Ratts - Fats - Stick Fat - Stick (cockney slang)

Steven Browne (What's brown and sticky? A stick)

Brock - Brick - Stick

Hmmm, which one is most likely.

I'd love to see Bruce Mathison step in as President....

We really do need an imposing figure leading our club again.

Why?

Whose the imposing figure at Geelong and StKilda?

I know that Collingwood's President imposes himself...does that make him imposing? Is that what you mean?
Is the Doggies' President, Smorgon imposing?

We're not that far from the top imo.
How much longer will Magpies, Saints, Dogs and Cats be at the top of the pile?

It's great that the Demons have demolished their debt, and we still have $7 odd million in debt.
But we have spent truckloads more on our footy dept than the Demons.
I can see us eroding that debt the moment we focus on that.

Juddy reckons we're just a Key defender away from competing with the best week in week out, as oposed to being very very good when we play at our very very best.

Glass is half full...with or without Kerna as President imo.
IMO Bruce Mathison has imposed himself on the club in a great way...with the pokie - pub deals.
He's far too busy and living in QLD to be making a greater day to day contribution than what Kerna does...imo.

We're doing allright.
All we have to focus on is delivering a flag whilst we've got Juddy and then we can look at the 2nd in succession after that.
Staedy as she goes.
