Let me get this straight....

Carlton will play two games back to back, each with two 20 min halves, one against Richmond and the other against Collingwood on Saturday 12 February.

Am I reading the new format of the NAB Cup right???

Holy crap.

Will that many ferals have ever been herded into the one stadium at the same time??

This 3-way stuff is a great way to put some interest into an interest-free competition.

GWS, Swans and Gold Coast at Blacktown... that's gonna go off.

Each team plays 2 4o minute games, consisting of two 20 minute halves. One club will have the advantage of playing the first and third game with a long break in between. I wonder which club that will be, let me think......................Collingwood i am guessing.
A good crowd will turn out. Some players will play in both games or only one or bits of both.
Something different, the top teams goes into the next round and the best performed 2nd place teams also advance, not sure how they will determine that.

Thankyou kezza... Maybe it was just me but that article made it confusing to understand just how it was going to work.

Just confirming the format of the comp.

Blockbuster start to NAB Cup

Quote:
A "SUPER Saturday" featuring lightning matches between Richmond, Carlton and Collingwood headlines the first week of next year's NAB Cup.

The league has shaken up the format for next year’s pre-season competition, with six three-team groups playing a mini-premiership of three matches, each of two 20-minute halves, at the same venue, one after the other.

The winner of each group, plus the two next best performing teams, will take part in a normal round two of the pre-season competition.

The novelty factor is strong in this one.

From the AFL website: * teams travelling the furthest distance to compete in consecutive matches

Yes, Collingwood do get the apparent advantage.

And yes, we have to sit through tigers vs. magpies until 9.25pm for our second game. It better not be light beer only.....

I hope Mick has some ways to counter blockbuster fatigue.

Don't know what worse, playing back to back and over doing it and pulling hammies or
having the break, cooling down, and pulling the hammie.

Was just wondering the same thing.

I think I'd prefer to play our games and be back on the Monash before Collingwood and Richmond play

Having Carlton supporters, Richmond supporters and Collingwood supporters in the same ground at the same time- recipe for trouble.

I think it's a unique social experiment. I predict a Machiavellian Carlton victory after a tentative truce with Richmond.
