Now that trade week is done and dusted...we must look forward to the National Draft, Rookie Draft and Pre-Season Draft. As it stands we have picks 18, 33, 41, 67, 70, 87, 104, 121, 138 in the ND Someone can clarify which Rookies need to be upgraded - White? Ellard? Garlett? Traded out - Grigg - Jacobs Traded in - Collins - Laidler The following should be delisted IMO - Wiggins (already gone) - Fisher - Anderson (?) - Tiller (?) - Johnson (?) (Laidler seems a better version) Think Thornton and O'hAilpin are still contracted so they stay. How many picks should we be using in the National Draft? Pre Season Draft? How many spots on the list need to be opened up? |

Chris Johnson was told he wouldn't be getting a new contract at the end of the season. Not sure if that's changed now after trade week, but can't see why not. Anderson got a new 2 year contract. |

I think that you can pay a player out if you really need to get him off your list. I don't think we'd do that with O'Halpin or Thorton, but I believe it is an option. |

I don't value picks 67 onwards in this draft. We have to make 3 changes to our list, and so far we have made 2 with Grigg and Jacobs gone. Garlett wil no doubt be promoted to the senior list. So we don't have to make any more changes. What rookies were on their last year in 2010? What are we going to do with our NSW scholarship players Pianta, Bray & Lodge: not much I suspect...maybe Bray in 2011. Wiggins = Garlett promotion Fisher = Pick 18 Jacobs = Pick 33 Johnson = Pick 41 Pick 67?..........Browne?....doubt it. Pick 87?.........Tiller?.......what for? I can't see us dropping anyone else till we find out who is available in the PSD. Long way to go before the 2011 list is done and dusted...then we can look forward to the next GWS compromised draft. Our list is strong. Just relying on Austin or Setanta making CHB their own...then the world is our oyster. |

I'd say we're using up to 5 picks. Thornton remaining on the list is not good news for a rookie or two as it pushes White back in the pegging order. I've heard that Cachia has a spot on the rookie list next year, so assuming the other is Casboult that's the three you can retain for a year (Tuohy is of course retained on a separate list). Ellard & Garlett are promoted, which leaves everything else looking like so: Out: Wiggins Fisher Anderson Tiller Johnson Browne Donaldson (rookie) Dare (rookie) And 1 of Thornton, Hadley or O'hAilpin. That's unfortunate for Browne and the rookies, but that's AFL footy I guess. |

Anderson has a new 2 year deal according to his player thread. |

That makes no sense whatsoever in terms of our trade strategy. Are we even going to exercise pick 67? |

I'm pretty sure we can use rookie promotions as late picks. Makes you wonder how many new players we'll be drafting in. You'd have to think we're a certainty to go tall at the draft in either round 1 or 2. |

You can only retain Tuohy and 3 other rookies. The remaining ones have to go through the draft process again, right up until the rookie draft. Prior to that, we can pre-list them. |

Who would you drop from the list to give you right of way to selection: 67 87 104 121 138 and do you really expect anything more than a list clogger from the above? Simmo was pick 45 in an average draft. We're in a much different space than we were 5 years ago...even 3 years ago. I like some of our rookies ...like Cachia and Donaldson...regardless of what others have to say of them...so maybe I would delist the cloggers (who are they that are stopping us from pick 67) ... (in the compromised draw) and I can promote rookies that show promise and of better value from an uncompromised draft. I don't think either way is a good bet tbh...but I'd take our rookies this year than #67 onwards from this and perhaps next years draft. That's just me. |

Primary List - In: Collins, Laidler, Ellard, Garlett, White, #18, #33, #41 & #67. Out: Grigg, Jacobs, Anderson, Browne, Fisher, Hadley, Johnson, Tiller & Wiggins. The one player named above I'm reluctant to delist is Hadley. With Grigg gone, and big question marks still over Brock, Hadley might hang on... And I know Joey has been rumoured to have had a contract extension, but that's unconfirmed (as far as I'm aware?). He showed real signs of improvement in the VFL this year, but I'd be a little surprised if he was retained to be honest... Rookie List - I'd retain Cachia, Levi, Dare & Tuohy. I'd delist Donaldson but perhaps look to re-rookie him with a late pick in the Rookie Draft. |

Good post abns I know I didn't see Donalson during the year, but I tell you, what I saw of him in the preseason really impressed me. He really attacked training with gusto and stood out more than some of our best 35 on those 2 days I saw. I know its preseason, but I said the same about Cachia and got nailed by some experts at TC, but others who witnessed Cachia during the year also saw some GREAT signs in him too. I have a feeling about Donalson...as a tall forward of the future. Not necessarily a KPF, but as a lead up marking forward...remember a kid named Pearce who plied that role in 1995? Mmmmmmmm. |
