Rumour from a guy on SEN who usually has some good oil says Leigh Matthews to be coach of Carlton next week.

Richardson + Brown = Matthews pupils

Who are we playing?

Seriously, would have a bit of a Pagan stench about it.

From an outsiders point of view Matthews is very simplistic in his views on the game, and doesn't seem to have a lot of time for the modernisation of football in particular the areas of sports science etc. May struggle to gel with a younger generation of players.

Hard to really gauge his coaching value due to the strength of the Brisbane team in the early '00's. After that he went 11,13,10,10 so where is the proven ability to rebuild a list or take a middle of the road team to the top?

No point over-analysing an SEN rumour though.

when's trade week for the players?

BTW Matthews has experience taking a team from wooden spoon to prelim in one year and premiers in 3 years. They only won a couple more in a row then another granny.

Not endorsing him to be coach, just sayin', s'all

Were you around when the Judd trade week was on?

Now THAT was insane.

Out on the road I would complete my jobs in double time just to get back to the car to listen to the updates. It got even worse on the Thursday and Friday.

Same here - I reckon my utilisation for the week was about 3%.

The only time I upped the tempo at all was when the streaming of SEN from my work computer dropped out and I thrashed around trying to re-establish it!!

Ahhh memories.....

I hear Michael Jackson's cardiologist is really good at that sort of stuff.

I have had the pleasure of working with Matthews and there is no one I would like better to coach Carlton as he would not put up with any crap and will get the best out of our group but I can't see it happening. Just listening to him talk on radio and tv I don't believe he has the hunger anymore.

We have done well getting Richardson and Brown. If we get Laidley and one or two more very good coaches I will be very happy.

PS My other wish is to get a stand alone Carlton reserves side (a must IMO) and a gun development coach in charge.

Matthews is of a bygone era. I know he won flags 7 years ago but he showed an inability to cope with the changeing trends of footy since then. Him as senior coach would be a step backwards. But as a coaches coach, in a part time capacity, watching the coaches on game day, in their meetings and at training and giveing them feedback might be a goer.

In 2011 I'll take Ratten over Matthews.....there I've said it.....and I'm unwavering in that. Let's just see how 2011 pans out first

He's obviouly not going to be senior coach, but he would be an excellent addition to the football department.

I'd take that....as long as he develops the coaching capacity beneath him and is not just an autocratic manager

Oh yes, I was here for that. But at least during that time there was plenty to keep us amused, courtesy of KB's Box seat.
