An interesting comment from our coach at the B&F tonight.

Basically saying a top 6 home and away finish is what's required.

I would've thought a top 4 finish after finals was a pass mark.
Am I being harsh?

Home final can mean a range of different things really. In the current AFL system, what is a home final for Victorian clubs? You can finish 4th and, assuming a Victorian club finishes first, we could be playing an away game at the MCG. It's not technically a "home" final, but it's essentially played in front of a home crowd.

If we finish fourth, we could still get that home final, just not in the literal sense.

If we finish 4th, we are guaranteed a home final at the very worst in week 2.

I'd say he's targetting top 6.

So 6th is the aim. Realistic, but hardly inspiring. Managing expectations rather than aspiring to greatness.

That's the Ratten way

Relying on natural maturation rather than any great strides in cohesion or strategy.

Our aim should be to get a double chance.

2007 - Roos went 14th to 4th
2008 - Dogs went 13th to 3rd

A good comparison?:

2009 - Pies went from 8th- 12 and 10, 111% to 4th. Why can't we aim for that?

If said the aim would be to win number 17, some here would complain of over reaching.

He can't win either way.

Rexy where does he say our aim is top 6?

Does it have to be one extreme or the other? :? I wouldn't have thought so.

I would have thought a top 4 finish would be a realistic expectation after 2 years in the 8. Anything other than that is lowering expectations which allows for underachieving.

Might be best to hear the whole speech before commenting.

A home final would be good but i doubt that is our ultimate aim but more something that would be good for the fans.

....er but like i said its best to hear the whole speech first.

Nothing in that article Rexy that says top 6.

What about winning a final no matter where it is....

 He could mean top 4 rather than top 6.

Possibly being a bit pedantic there Rexy.

A home final - he wants us to finish 1st, 2nd or 5th, 6th.

3rd, 4th would be a failure.

The B&F last last is an idictment on the team list and the coaching staff. A bloke has just polled 30 votes in the Brownlow and won his 3rd JNM in a row.

Where are our next gen of champions?

Why aren't they developing sufficiently after 100-150 games?

Yes, we should be aiming top 4 at the end of the home and away - but to get there, Ratts and the coaches are going to have to work bloody hard in the next 11 months.

It IS possible, but they'll have to make some serious changes.

Totally agree. Thinking the exact same thing. Judd is carrying this club. Development still an issue. Rather than look at positions in the B&F, have a look at the percentage disparity bw Judd and others.

Forget ladder positions. We need to aim for at least 2 lots of 3-4 consecutive wins. The position on the ladder will then look after itself. No more nonsense about being young and inconsistent. FFS, WC and Carlton were the only two sides who couldn't string more than two wins together this year. That is a disgrace in any language.
