If it wasn't for Carlton, Teague would have done jail time by now. So when do the favors end? I think he has potential. I know he'd love to continue in coaching, but being a coach of your own team is what he needs. Whether it's in the bush, metro league, TAC or standalone VFL - if he's serious about coaching at the highest level - I'm of the opinion he needs his own team. The Bullants are not that.

Interesting - I'd have thought he's proven himself as someone who can get a bunch of players from VFL and AFL clubs working well together, arguably a more difficult challenge? I think it's time he worked as a line coach at AFL level to boost his resume. Not suggesting that should be at CFC.

Hardly a favor when he's doing a very good job as it is. May have been at the start, certainly isn't now.

He is well sort after. Teaguey is now in a position to accept or reject offers.

I didn't know that. That's great news if true. I don't really want to be a club handing out work experience opportunities anymore. Not sure what he brings to the table as an assistant.

He's wasn't exactly a TAC poster child once upon a time (or he was, depending on your definition).

Doc, shocking comment implying he should have been in jail.. really average remark.
As for assistants, the vibe I'm getting from the club is that we've got our feet in both camps re: Ratten- its hard to appoint assistants when your coach (who nobody is really definitive about) is in his final year of his contract (and it is this final year in which he will ultimately be judged.)
Not saying we shouldnt have done what we did- its just that we put ourselves in an awkward position if we are to seek a new senior coach for 2011 and that coach would bring in his own assistants.
Could be a hefty pay out.

You have to be careful in judging assistant coaches. The perception is when a team is going well then their assistant coaches must be good. It wasn't long ago that Sumich was highly regarded but that has fallen off. Who knows, the best assistant coach might be at the worst side.

I have a concern that we have lost so many assistant coaches at the one time. Assistant coaches tend to come from recent retirees and I am worried we will have too much inexperience at the club at the one time.

From where I sit there are some assistant coaches I think we should consider.
Gary Ayres is one because of his experience.
Scott Burns because of what he can bring from what he learnt from Malthouse. There are some at Collingwood that believe he will make a better coach than Buckley.
Chris Scott because of what he can bring from what he learnt from Matthews.
And finally Wayne Brittain. Not a great bloke but did a good job as an assistant coach and has that edge about him.

At the risk of being a nag, we want someone first and foremost who will get our backline playing tough, hard nosed, accountable footy. Someone who could then take the next step towards being senior coach.

PETER DEAN !!!!!!!!!!!

I said he would have done jail time....sometimes the truth is shocking. If you honestly believe that a modern car such as the ute Teague was driving has loose floormats go right ahead...my bro-in-law drives the same car... they're embedded in the carpet. And if it was loose, it defies the laws of gravity for it to intefere with the pedals. And in that unlikelihood, it's still made of a flexible material. One also wonders if this is a design fault with the vehicle (in which case Ford should have issued a recall).

Like many of you I'm sure, I'd like to think I know a bit about handling vehicles. From the reports, it seems that Teague simply took the corner way too fast and the inevitable happened.

For what it's worth, two mechanical experts gave contrasting evidence over the likelihood that the car's foot mat interfered with the accelerator and contributed to the crash. The magistrate ruled that he couldn't 'exclude as a reasonable hypothesis that the floor-mat interfered with the proper operation of the brake and the accelerator pedals.' Thank you expert witness paid for by the Carlton Football Club. Favor number 1. Favor 2 - retire early...but we know you have an interest in coaching...here's the Bullants. Favor 3 - Assistant coach of an AFL club? I don't think so. Not yet.

As someone who has worked for a major car company in product development which builds cars such as the one in question, it is conceivable that the floor mats can interfere with the pedals, and the accelerator in particular. I know, because it's happened to me several times. The way the mats are 'fixed' is still not permanent and they can come loose and shift forward substantialy and quickly. Due to their bulky nature, it doesn't take long before they're in amongst the pedals.

Design fault? Maybe. Potential contributor to an accident? Definately possible.

Club liked him as he is a club champ so they helped him out by getting him the best legal.

He is getting the results as Bullants coach. Should be looked at as the players love him and love playing for him. To me he has a bit of Paul Roos about him (Roos obviously a better player).
