not sure if there is another tread but iam bored, so here it is for me, armfield jamison white russell waston drummond simpson gibbs lucas yarran waite murphy gartlett henderson t.lynch kreuzer judd mclean anyone from; warnock carrazzo scotland davies betts bower robinson ellard joseph would love to get drummond to play half back flank to free up gibbs. waston for a key defender, which is what we need. t.lynch for a tall/medium forward which we need. |

Dont really think we need a medium forward. Id be comfortable with Houilhan, Walker or Yarran in that role (Yarran is way bigger than Betts and Garlett and i think should be regarded as medium sized). |

We desperately need a big bodied key defender and some more mature bodies through the midfield with very good kicking ability and decision making. I am hoping we are agressive and trade Hampson or Jacobs, Thornton and maybe our first or second round picks and get guys like Salopek and Knights. Jackson Trengrove would be good but highly unlikely. Therefore I have suggested Brad Miller as he is 27, big bodied and is very good one on one with guys like Hall, Pavlich, Brown etc. We would also get him for nothing! I have been to about 10 Bullants games this year and numerous training sessions and for me Touhy has been a standout. His improvement has been amazing. He is a bigger body, quick and his a very veyr good kick of the ball. Will never shy form a job or contest either. We struggled in this role and I back Touhy to step up in 2011. Ellard is also an option in that role. Russell picks himself and I have White on the bench as a back up defender who can also play forward. We also are flexible with Hendo and Waite able to go back if really needed. Walker on the bench is also another option. Bower is a good footballer who has had a bad year ruined by injury and confidence. I expect him to bounce back. Hopefully Austin will step up as he is a bigger body but also a better kick. The flankers I have Yarran and O'Keefe. The key to the good sides is run out of defence and good use of the ball. That is where we have struggled. Yarran is all class but needs to become more consistent and playing off HB will help that. Developing as a small forward will limit him. He can run and carry, use his pace and his kicking inside our 50 should create opportunities. He can also push forward at times to add a spark. Easier to do when he has been in the game already. I believe it will make him as a player. O'Keefe needs to get fit but if he can ( and he is already training hard) he would make a huge difference. Big bodied, hard at it and one of the best kicks I have seen. On his left he can hit targets over 50m and gets the ball there quickly with penetration. Big call for a kid yet to debut but I have high hopes. Anderson may be a back up as finally fit and having a consistent run he has been very good at the Bullants and his long kicking has been a feature. Armfield of course is the another as is Lucas who's poise was missed late in the year. Hope that explains my thinking!!!

Couldn't agree more with you here, but you've introduced four new faces into the six defenders and retained, arguably, the worst two out of the ones we have. Jamison is as good as any defender in the league. Yes, he plays a bit shorter than 193cm, but he is the one with runs on the board as a defender, not Brad Miller who, at best, was a stop-gap for a side conceding 20 goals week in, week out.... I like the part where he comes for nothing, but the Gold Coast are the ones with the extended list - and therefore the luxury of stockpiling. I like what i've seen of Touhy on TV, but he's not ahead of Armfield, Ellard, Davies or Joseph. Absolutely, throw him in the mix with these guys during the preseason, but he's a long way from being considered as a stopping option for the likes of Le Cras, Didak, Davis, Stokes and Rioli to name a few.... It's not all about charginig off the last line at pace. You've got to get it first. Yarran hasn't got a defensive bone in his body. Again, he would look good running past for a handball, but the deepest we would want him to go is centre wing. The stories I'm hearing about O'Keeffe are all good. Tough, skilled, smart. All good... Get him to put together 20 weeks of work and we might have something, but like Touhy, he's not ahead of Armfield, Ellard, Davies, Joseph or even Russell - and Russell is a netballer; a corral-er. My alternative: FB: Armfield Jamison Bower HB: Davies Waite White C: Lucas GIBBS Simpson Jarrad Waite has got all the tools to be the best in the business at CHB. The temperament deserts him all too often, but i'm backing him in to sort that out... A weekly viewing of his histrionics in Sydney a couple of weeks ago would be enough to straighten any man out. What I like about Marcus Davies is that he plays a hard man's game. I think, and i've only seen a handful of minutes from him, that he might have that little bit of 'thug' in him that galvanises a group of defenders..... Similarly, Armfield is as hard as a cat's head. Forget the bounce that cost us. If he leaves that out of his game, then he loses all that's good about him. Simon White is as sure a defender as i've seen in navy blue. He lacks a bit of pace, but what i'm looking for is a guy that collects marks from opposition kicks. Armfield, Bower and Waite provide plenty of run from the back, but if you want more, his spot would be the one to change. Bower needs to beef up. We just can't afford to have him pushed around so easily by the big forwards... Bradshaw did it to him last year, but he was on one leg at the time, so he must be close... I'm yet to meet a Maori that can't add muscle in a hurry and sustain it. I've put the centre line in there because we want the ball in these hands when we're going forward. GIBBS is the playmaker. Simpson and Lucas are the link between rebound and attack. For mine, the centre line picks itself.... Scotland is the incumbent winger, but Lucas is the future. Big, quick, agile, skilled... he's the one for me. |
