Big strong sides, with big strong ruckmen win flags. How lucky are we,with an abundance of that rare commoditie.Four really good ruckmen on the same list. Each with differant qualities that compliment each other.Non of these guys have reached anything like there true potential yet.I want them to reach there potential under the Carlton umbrella. The time may come when we may trade, but not now.Fantastic work by match commitee, recruiters, and there development coach Matty Capuano. Now who would give away a rare gem, unless for top dollar.Come trade time, there will be a frenzy for one of these guys................i tell you what i would do.In the words of that famous whatshername French Queen,i would tell them to eat cake..................if you reckon the suiters are desperate now, wait till this time next year, they will be in a frenzy.Dont listen to all the urgers and coat pullers, hold off for another 12 months. If we must trade, trade at the right time and to a desperate buyer to get the best return.

I agree Mickstar - in hindsight we should have signed up Jacobs last year so at least we would be in a better bargaining position right now.
In my opinion our premiership window opens next year so a quality key defender would be fantastic - however I doubt Jacobs alone would be enough to get one as they are a rare commodity (just ask Hawks supporters).
At this stage I'm expecting top 4 next year with the only teams better placed being Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs and Collingwood. Saying that I'm not sure if Collingwood have the quality/class to overcome the hangover should they win the flag this year.

It's very simple. Any week we're gonna have an AFL quality ruckman playing VFL when we have clear deficiencies that astute trading could rectify.

So either way our senior team will be missing a quality ruckman. Do you want that to be with or without a solid KPP?

Trade one and draft another. It's the circle of life.

 BUT there is potential for Hampson and/or Warnock to play in the forward line!!
If we trade one of them, or the gold coast take one... then we better get something worth while.
We have potential within our club right now, I would prefer us to work on that than to simply get rid of them just because we have too many.

I am sick of the amount of people still whinging that there is a whole in our forward line... but yet they want to get rid of guys who could potentially do damage down there!!??

They're all AFL quality but at all times at least one and probably two will be running around in the VFL. Situations like that build resentment and frustration.
We have to expect that the players themselves may be looking for opportunities elsewhere.

If we get a red hot offer and the player wants to go, let it happen.

When you're in a negotiating position of power though, it has to be a RED hot offer, otherwise we're dumb not to keep them all. Just because its trade week doesn't mean you have to trade for trading's sake.

It is common sense to use any surplus to reqiurements on your list to address defeciencies.
Easier said than done as we have seen in trade weeks gone by.

Like BV said it's not just about what we want but what the players wants. If you're playing an AFL standard ruckman in the VFL do you really think they would want to stay?

Hampson went backwards this year because he didn't get a good run in the seniors like last season. Okay he's a great back up for us but having Kreuzer, Jacobs and Warnock actually hindered his development. I'd love to keep them all as well but the fact is with other clubs in need of rucks sniffing they're not all going to want to stay.

..agreed, but for next year at least we can't expect krooz to carry too much ruck duty.. ..so really, it's 2 rucks and one in the vfl..jacobs and knockers in front of hammer now.. ..hammer can still use time to develop..so, he devlopes in vfland is depth in case of injury/form for other two..all 4 rucks are very young/inexperienced.. ..so, aside from krooz pre-injury.. ..up until now none of the other 3 have looked like holding down a ruck spot all season.. ..still young enough to come in and out of the side i reckon..

There is another consideration. At the moment, both Jacobs and Hampson have currency, because both have played seniors this year and at time shown something.

Hypothetically, what if next year Krezuer plays full forward, and Jacobs and Warnock play ruck, and Hampson languishes in the seconds all year? He then has no currency for trade (and is out of contract, so could walk). Similarly, if Warnock and Kreuzer play ruck, Jacobs plays seconds (Hampson may be in and out as a forward) and has less currency.

Assuming Kreuzer and Warnock play most games next year, the number 4 ruckman may lose the currency he now has.

Thats a reasoble view Siggy..................but i cant see Kruez coming back 100 %.Reckon they will ease him in slowly as a forward.I know, they tried it with very little success, but i reckon they will give it another crack..................and im bettin there will be an injury here and there and you wont have all fit and firing together. It always happens.Someone always goes down................and i will bet my left you know what there currency wont go down.Guys 200 cm plus dont grow on trees.Even if they are mediocre, and ours arent' mediocre, they dont lose currency purely on there size alone. Those four guys are GOLD at the moment.Reckon the suiters are desperate now, just wait till this time next year,it will be a feeding frenzy.Good poker players know when to hold.

Sam would want a career path and the club that can offer him that will be where he goes, you couldn’t see him arguing over a few thousand $$.

If we are committed to him lets give him a 3-4 year deal so he can settle in for the long term and no doubt he will continue to develop with us.

How does he stack up against this lot of Carlton ruckmen…..

Cain Ackland
Dylan McLaren
Chris Bryan
Ricky Mott
Adrian Deluca
Mark Porter
Barnaby French

Pretty simple isn’t it….....

Dear List Manager,.......please get this decision right!!

Jacobs for Trengrove?

Author:  4thchicken [ Tue Sep 07, 2010 7:18 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Keep 'em all.

Most would love to keep them all however in order to do so, you have to be able to keep all 4 ruckmen happy. If I were jacobs, I wouldnt be happy with the current situation.

Jacobs has been the best ruckman on our list for the past 2 yrs yet was consistently considered 4th choice and would lose his spot in the team any time one of the others showed a bit of form. If the situation remained the same, there would be no reason why he'd stay when he clearly deserves a first 22 spot in a team somewhere.

So we are left with 2 options - to either trade jacobs to another club or to trade one of our other ruckmen. Either way its going to be about jacobs getting a real opportunity to establish his AFL career rather than the club or supporters wanting to get rid of him.
