Only Judd is included in the initial squad of 40 selected.

In looking through the other player's in teh squad i wonder whether they have had standout years in comparison to our team, or any other.

For example: players like Dal Santo, Brady Rawlings, Cooney, Harry Taylor have been serviceble at times in games that I've seen, but I don't know if they have been elite this year.

Deledio is another whose second half has been very good, but his first half was pretty close to shocking.

Why is someone like Kade Simpson not in there? Or Kieran Jack even-who's been excellent in most games this year.

I get the feling that like the Australian cricket team used to be "once you are in, you stay in".

The squad really is irrelevant and the only Carlton player worthy of being in the 22 is Judd.

The only deserving player was Kade. No-one else has been consistent enough.

To answer your question, YES WE SHOULD HAVE MORE PLAYERS IN, DAMNIT!! And if this were the case, we'd be top 4! (At least top 6) Unfortunately, our players have not been good enough this year!
Judd is our only worthy All-Australian.

Betts was on track but lost his way in the past couple months.
Simpson is not All-Australian. He is very good and has been reasonably consistent and valuable to us, esp the way he often sparks us or drags us back into a game but he is not at the level of the other mids in the squad. Cooney is the possible exception b/c he has had a very up & down year. Doubt he will make the final cut.
Russell started the year in AA form. But has fallen away.
No-one else really worth mentioning in AA discussion in my view.

Okay, maybe it's like the Aussire cricket team circa 2008-2010. :smoking:

I guess I agree that there are few from our team other than maybe Simmo that should get a place in the sqaud. I just think that many of that squad have had had inconsistent years.

I expect to see 5 players in that sqaud from carlton next year: Judd, Gibbs, Murphy, Garlett, Pavlich. Okay maybe not Pav. Kreuzer. Very excited about him back stronger, fitter, hungrier.

Rawlings and Taylor deserves their spots. In their roles and positions, they'd be in the top 2 or 3. Not sure about Deledio, Simmo probably had a more influential season, but I think it comes down to positions. Simmo had, Goodes, Harvey, Enright and Chapman to compete with.

It's probably right we don't have more players, but if Judd was the only one selected for a Finals team he should be a shoo-in for the starting 18.

Well we finished 8th and so I guess that is our lot right now

Disappointing but I would think in next couple years Gibbs and Murphy will be very close

Betts was excellent until about 6-8 weeks ago but even then he would be competing against some good small fwds

Is an indication as to why the Blues will lose to the Swans.

Once they lock down Judd - who else can step up?

No one.

It is Judd or nothing at Carlton. If Judd plays well we have a chance.
He is our only A grade player...after that just a whole lot of average/semi average/slightly above average players.

we finished 8th

so how do you plain 3 North players?

Obviously Ratts is a brilliant coach and Judd is the greatest player ever because the rest of our players are shit.

I don't think that's completely right.

Judd is very, very important to us, however it's in the players he attracts to him (thus giving our other mids more time/space) more than in his possessions this year. had a great first month but has been nullified alot in my view since then. Not a criticism, just an observation from my perspective.

I'd rate his season as 6/10, based on his lofty standards.

Now I'm convinced, its not Judd's disposal that is crap at times, its the players who he is kicking it to that are sh1t, not being in the right spot to be on the end of it...

JR and Bower would've both been contenders in the first half of the season, but have dropped off.

The problem was the same for a lot of our guys, and indicative of our season.

I don't think it really matters tbh.

Sure, it's a nice feeling to have players in the All-Aust team, but it doesn't count for much else.

But won't somebody please think of Nick Maxwell!!!

Judds in the best 5 players in the comp.

Simmo's had a brilliant year and if he backs up again next year he's a chance.

Not sure what all the fuss is about, it's just the opinions of a selected few. Don't be distracted, only finals matter.

Give me a top 4 or 8 finish over 15 blokes in the AA team.

Hate to be seen agreeing with CIMM but spot on, I'd rather play finals than have 2 more players in the AA squad!!

Simmo may have pressed his claim a little more strongly with greater accuracy in front of goal. His radar has been off this year kicking for goal. Nothing like scoring goals as a midfielder to raise your profile.

The panel got it right regardless of how many players Nth or whoever had. Our talent pool is dangerously skewed and if Judd and Simmo are shut down, bye bye Carlton
