I scan my card at the gate and proceed to a good standing spot.

Dumb question but do you mean you don't have to buy a ticket to the final, just scan in? Is that for all memberships or just the more expensive ones?

Thats for AFL Membership.

First two weeks are free entry, unless you have to reserve a seat, then there'll be a fee of some sort.

If you go onto the MCG website you can see the seating plan for the finals. You will see that most of the seating is designated as Premium.

Standard seating = M3 & M33 directly behind the goals. Or right up the very back of those Q areas noted below.
Prime seating = M1,2,4,5,31,32,34,35 (behind the goals). Q1-15,28-36 & 49-57 (top deck).
Outside of these areas unless you are an AFL or MCC member you will be paying for Premium seating.

They do offer restricted viewing in Week 1 for $38.50 which is the same as Standing Room.

Week 2 (Fingers crossed), Week 3:
For Adults
Standard: $47, $76
Prime: $63, $103
Premium: $77, $123
Rest. View: $42, $68.50
Standing Room: $42, $68.50

What I dont understand is, how could Q be considered a better viewing area than M1 and M33?

How can level 1 be the same price as level 2? It isn't during the home and away season.

It's all about the AFL making money. They changed the seating categories for the 2009 finals. The Prime seats I sat in at the 2007 and 2008 finals became Premium seats in 2009.

FYI here are the prices for an adult to attend the Grand Final.

Premium: $270
Prime: $235
Standard: $161
Rest. View / Standing Room: $142.50

As tickets are allocated to members you don't get to choose your seating. The options for members when registering are:
1. Best available ticket.
2. Best available ticket excluding standing room.
3. Mobility impaired / companion ticket required.

Wow.... it really has been a long time since we've had a chance to buy finals tickets... hopefully we will have a reason to complain about how expensive they are this year

Are we even gonna make it past week 1 to worry about the MCG???

is it true that if We secure a Home final, we will be playing at Etihad in Week 1?

Not too sure at this stage, we'll see how things pan out over the next couple of days. Until then I think you should work on your chest a bit.

I would say almost no chance. The only way the dome will get a game is if there is 4 matches in Melbourne. For that to happen Brisbane must beat Sydney, Carlton beat Freo and Hawtorn beat Collingwood. Even on the rare chance that happens they would put Hawthorn Freo at the dome before Carlton Sydney. I guess if Freo pump us and Brisbane pump Sydney and they swap spots due to percentage we would play Freo at the dome but lets just wait till after tonight and we can eliminate a lot of scenarios.
