Ratten/Harvey press conference: Just a bit of fun and games between coaches.

KB: Have Freo treated Carlton with contempt? GS: Not really, club does what it does, we can just do what we can do. Guys who have missed 1 week no big deal, but a 3-4 week break is more of an issue. We hope they’re a bit rusty. We had a good hit out against the Cats, Freo put their feet up, time will tell.

Stuff that happens off field, irrelevant, just get on with the game.

KB: Promising signs against Cats; GS: Had a lot of the play, but they were too good in the end.

Pleased with Henderson’s progress and Waite’s performance given knee injury and suspensions.

Warnock been a good addition, tough against Sandilands this week.

Had a poor month in July, last 3-4 weeks have been better, bit of run in our game, finding form and Subi should suit us.

KB: CFC have been supportive of Ratts; GS: No issue here, caravan circus moves from one coach to another.

Footy turns around pretty quickly, we’ve only been out of the 8 for one week this season, thinks its incredible so many were after the coach.

Still pretty young, we’ll have around 12 guys with under 50 games playing this week, which is effectively a final.

KB: Jared Brennan/Chris Tarrant rumours: GS: If Gold Coast want someone, they’ll get them with money and picks to burn.

Interesting what’s happening at Brisbane, they obviously have some salary cap issues.

Carlton is paying some of Fev’s wage, some this year and a little bit next year – direct quote “it is minuscule in the scheme of things.”

McLean still a chance to come back this year. Bullants in the finals, which might help Brock who will be playing against decent quality players.

Houlihan had knee op, had a bit of a setback, nothing sinister with not playing (ie Gold Coast rumour), cotracted for next year.

Said he can guarantee Brett Ratten’s job for next year!

Heard the interview and a good summary.
He said that Carlton like the big Subi ground and if we win and Collingwood beat Hawthorn we will get a home final and probably host Freo. We may have to barrack for Collingwood on Saturday
He also mentioned that only 5 teams, including us, have made the finals for the the last 2 years in a row. We have only been out of the 8 for one week this year and Ratten was always supported.

Thanks camelboy and kezza.

Couple of interesting revelations there together with a bit of spin which is creeping into Swanns persona IMO.

I agree that playing at Subi will be good for us. Great crowd support and plenty of space to run.

I thought we were only paying a bit of Fev's deal this year... That's what he did say last year.

To now be told that we're paying a bit next year, however miniscule that might be, is a bit disappointing, really. You can't keep saying it's a great deal and we did really well, and then revising aspects of that deal in retrospect which makes it a bit worse. It becomes a bad deal then.

Not sure about that Sean. I'm of the opinion now it will never be a bad deal.

My disappointment comes from the parameters of the deal being changed.

We were under the impression it was for Henderson and 12 and we gave them 27 or whatever pick that was. Then it was revealed we are paying part of his salary this season. Disappointing, to be sure, but if it gets the deal done then fine. Then its revealed we're paying part of his salary again next season. I'd be interested to know how "miniscule" this subsidy is.

Paying for someone who isn't on your list isn't something you want to be doing, no matter how little the payments are.

And I don't care about "the cost of not trading him on culture" and all that jazz.

I cant remember ever hearing that we only had to pay him one year. Always thought it was 2. We may have tried to squeeze more into the salary cap year 1 to get it out the way.

Either way it doesnt bother me too much. We are getting similar results for less than half the cost of what we would pay if he was still at the club.

Without knowing the amount it's a bit hard to make that call. If it's 50K next season that works out to roughly 1K per player on our list. Even if it's triple that which I doubt as Swann refers to it as miniscule it's still pretty small bikkies in the context of an 8 million salary cap. When you then consider that he's just undergone major surgery and there are fairly justifiable doubts about his commitment to rehab it's a no-brainer for me. Of course it would have been better to keep pick 27 and not have to pay any of his salary but I think we sold pretty high, and in return got 2 class players who will be fantastic for Carlton for the next decade, and the club should be congratulated on a very good deal.

People still don't understand we were dealing with a train wreck at the time. Incredible to believe we got Hendo and Lucas for Fev, 27 and payment of some part of his salary.

Thank the lord for Voss because without him we would have got nothing at all.

Fev was gone from Carlton, no matter which way it ended up happening.

Rischetelli and a broken down Bradshaw, meh!!!! Hendo and Lucas ROFL
