I had a look at the rankings of players according to Pro-Stats. Listed below are the 2010 Nominees (so far), their ranking and number of games played. I've provided an average so a comparison can be made. Based on the rankings Dustin Martin is a stand out (but ineligible). Hannebery followed very closely by Rockcliff round out the top 3.

Nominee Ranking No. of Games Average
19. Garlett (Carl) 618 16 38.63
18. Hurley (Ess) 672 16 42
17. Grant (Bull) 570 15 38
16. Davis (Adel) 388 12 32.33
15. Redden (Bris) 794 19 41.79
14. Stratton (Haw) 671 17 39.47
13. Rockcliff (Bris) 720 16 45
12. Reid (Coll) 648 16 40.5
11. Gysbert (Melb) None provided when less than 5 games played
10. Martin (Rich) 917 18 50.94
9. Fyfe (Freo) 584 14 41.71
8. Melksham (Ess) 353 11 32.09

Would be nice, I reckon he's come very close once or twice this year so they would be looking out for him.

The problem with this is it doesn't recognise the difference between midfielders and other positions. It's like deciding the best and fairest based on supercoach. FWIW Garlett would be winning the goalkicking and probably the tackling out of that group of contendors.

I'd be pretty confident that Garlett will finish higher in our best and fairest count than any of the others will in their's.

Would they be paying a lot of attention to Fyfe and Bastinac?

Fyfe will get votes. Because Jacko always votes for one of the nominees from either West Coast or Fremantle. I would be surprised if he even watched many of the other games.

Bastinac is no chance.

I'm perfectly happy with Jeff floating under the radar. Most of our team isn't floating under the radar which is why we are definentally paying WAY TOO MUCH for players.

Personally, I think we paid too much for Betts. The Carlton players seem to play well until they've signed their contracts.

Big example of that is Gibbs. Although he did have that 1 great game after he signed, he has been rubbish since.

Only person who I'd be throwing a bag of money at is Grigg... He is worth it.

But congrads nevertheless to Jeff. Great to see a Rookie listed player being so dominant. Now all 3 of the indigenous players need to learn CONSISTENCY!

Absolutely!! But not the white players! They're all really consistent!

Well deserved honour.

This is a beauty of a rookie pick.
So far I have him ahead of Yarran in development. Hopefully that gives Chris the spur to make himself better.

I reckon!!! Yazz is probably thinking to himself right now: "Buzzaaaah on TC rates Jeffy ahead of me in development. Well shucks, I'm really going to show him. I'm just going to make myself better!"

I was talking about the award not my opinion. But I think you knew that.
Whatever floats your boat.

Chillax dude. I shoulda put a  in.

Carlton's Jeff Garlett rejects Eagles lure

Quote:
CARLTON small forward Jeff Garlett is set to reject overtures from West Coast and re-sign with the Blues.
In a major coup for Carlton, the elusive goalkicker is expected to commit to a new deal within days

There was an article in The Age today (can't find it in the online version) which said that Neon Davis is Jeff's uncle  I knew he was related to Buddy and Cruize but no idea about Davis.

Is that "uncle" or "uncle"?

When Mike & Dan interviewed Mr Garlett early last year, not only did they reveal this but his other relatives such as Des Hedland et al.

how-buddy-inspired-blues-sharpshooter-garlett

From yesterday's West Australian.

Quote:
The pair and Eddie Betts became comically known earlier in the year as "Setanta's Little Helpers" as they yapped around the feet of full-forward Setanta O'hAilpin, and coach Brett Ratten quipped there was constant one-upmanship between them.

"I think he (Yarran) is (quickest) by the clock, but Jeffie thinks he's the best mark and Eddie thinks he can kick them from the boundary," Ratten said. "I think they've all got their little mantle of something clever down there. From their kicking goals from the boundary, the boys have their contests during their week and they challenge each other after training.

"They've got outstanding flair. They have a knack of scoring the goals and that's something we don't want to take away from them."

Quote:
Ratten also revealed assistant coach and Carlton legend Craig Bradley had likened Garlett to 1993 Brownlow medallist, Gavin Wanganeen.

"Braddles always says he's got a Wanganeen sort of movement and things like that so I think he calls him 'Little Wangas'," he said.

"He finds the goals like Gavin did. Gavin played over 300 games so hopefully Jeffie can do the same."

The Wanganeen comparison is an interesting one. Hope he's not a cheating littlle prick like Wanganeen was...
