Well done Garlett. I was not overly convinced about you last year but you have shown this year that you are up to AFL standard and hopefully you can develope your game further and move into the midfield in the years to come.

Very well deserved. Kicks six goals last Friday night and not one picture of him in the Herald Sun. Wouldn't happen if it was a Collingwood player ... front and back page !!!

Anyway happened to meet by accident Jeff Gartletts former U/19 coach in Perth last year. Rated him very highly.

Just posted on the AFL website that finally Jeff has received a nomination. Fully deserved and he should really be talked about as one the favourites to win it.

Won't win it, because the award is as much about publicity as anything else. And the fact the Garlett hasn't got a nomination until now tells you that he hasn't had a lot of publicity. You've also got the interstate guys like 'Jacko' who always vote for home state players.

Having said all that, I think he should win it. I can't think of a nominated player who's had a better year, except Dustin Martin, and he's not eligible.

My guess is that it'll go to Dan Hannebery, because he's got the interstate 'free pass', and because he's been talked up over the last 6 weeks.

Heard that Kevin Barlett has already inked him in for the trophy.

Well deserved honour.

This is a beauty of a rookie pick.
So far I have him ahead of Yarran in development. Hopefully that gives Chris the spur to make himself better.

I reckon!!! Yazz is probably thinking to himself right now: "Buzzaaaah on TC rates Jeffy ahead of me in development. Well shucks, I'm really going to show him. I'm just going to make myself better!"

I'm not too displeased at the 'under the radar' profile Jeff has. I think it's good for his personal development to not be in the glare of the spotlight so much.

Has Dale Thomas ever kicked 6? If he does, there'll be a commemorative 8 page wrap, a special McDonalds Happy Meal with bobble-head doll, and a perpetual trophy named in his honour. Plus a showbag at the Royal Show, complete with blond 'just been shagged' wig.

It was an outstanding match from Garlett - he had to battle Essendon* defenders and played the central role in getting Carlton ahead despite the atrocious umpiring that gifted Essendon* at least 2 or 3 goals from 50 metre penalties in the first half. (The 50 metre penalty has to go...complete joke that penalty.)

Jeff didn't just kick the four goals in the first half he also set up a few others as well. Outstanding.

Surely he should be up the top in voting - especially seeing as Hannebury's form has dropped away recently.
Would be fantastic to see Jeff win the award.

I'm perfectly happy with Jeff floating under the radar. Most of our team isn't floating under the radar which is why we are definentally paying WAY TOO MUCH for players.

Personally, I think we paid too much for Betts. The Carlton players seem to play well until they've signed their contracts.

Big example of that is Gibbs. Although he did have that 1 great game after he signed, he has been rubbish since.

Only person who I'd be throwing a bag of money at is Grigg... He is worth it.

But congrads nevertheless to Jeff. Great to see a Rookie listed player being so dominant. Now all 3 of the indigenous players need to learn CONSISTENCY!

I was talking about the award not my opinion. But I think you knew that.
Whatever floats your boat.

Hannebery has done very little in the past 4-6 weeks - had a couple of BOGs earlier in the season but I'm not sure it's enough.

Martin got a reprimand - the incident did not warrant a penalty.

One thing we can say for certain is that the panel which decides the award will be made up of people who have NOT seen the players play enough to make an informed decision.

Would they be paying a lot of attention to Fyfe and Bastinac?
