With Essendon* and Carlton doing battle this Friday night, let’s remember some glory days of both proud clubs and put possibly the best two seasons in recent memory head to head -http://www.thebigtip.com.au/afl/greatest-afl-team-last-30-years-part-one Quote: Who do you think was the better team, Carlton 1995 or Essendon* 2000? So many great battles would have been fought between the two teams Lloyd v Silvagni, Hird v Koutourfides, Kernahan v Fletcher. Quote: Losing only two of twenty-five games for the entire year will ensure Carlton forever go down in the history books. Make a comment on there, who you think was the better side, the team with the most reader comments will go through to the semi-final in weeks to come. ![]() |

Quote: The Greatest AFL team - Carlton 1995 or Bombers 2000 Neither. Great modern day teams would destroy both of them. With rolling zones, constant player rotation, and high posession football; both would be run into the ground and choked to death. |

Wallis on Kernahan Silvagni on Lloyd Diesel vs can't remember... Look it's not worth the trouble going through the rest of both lists. No doubt Carlton 1995 was a far superior team than Bumbers 2000. Amen |

Flecther? You mean the Essendon* LHBFOC ? (Loose Half Back Flanker of The Century) Man, you want to get u an Essendon* fans goat, point out how this bloke NEVER picks up a key forward. Last week v St Kilda, he picked up a first gamer! The intersting thing about these two sides, is that when Essendon* won in 1993 with the 'baby bombers' over the 'too old too slow', the fact remains that in the next ten years, both clubs won one premiership. So much for the 'baby bombers'. I love the fact that us in 99 and the the Lions in 2000 ensured that this team only won one flag. ![]() |

If Kouta was fit, we would have won in 2000. So the choice is clear. |

We were hunting Richmond in the second half of the Semi, Kouta goes down with a knee, we lose by 11 points. We would have played Brisbane the next week, who we were more than capable of beating (having smashed them by 74 points earlier in the year I think it was), and then Essendon* in the Grand Final (who we also beat twice that season). We may have finished 5th that year and looked a bit flakey at times, but we were closer to the top than people gave us credit for. |

We may have finished 5th that year and looked a bit flakey at times, but we were closer to the top than people gave us credit for. We needed to get top 4 that year, but the infamous tanking match when Hird was mysteriously on the bench against Richmond with the game in the balance in round 22 2001 put paid to that. That Richmond final is an abomination of history. Never before have I been at a game when we were 7 points down in the 3rd quarter knowing we couldn't win. We kicked ourselves out of the game before Kouta went down. I will never forget Richmond supporters cheering him go down. FWIW - Us v Essendon* 1995 - We had a better midfield and defence, they had a better forward line. Ruck probably neither here nor there for either side. So in conclusion - us. Who was more dominant throughout their respective seasons - Essendon*, better percentage and lost 1 less game. |
