Basically, I believe it's the responsibility and role of the 'Senior' coach to provide a sound and productive tactical game style. If his ideologies are seen to be flawed, then perhaps he should be placed into a different role.
Personalities would of course be a big factor
but all Laidley would be required to do would be to give suggestions. It would be up to Ratts to act on them. You would hope all the assistants would be doing this.
As for Williams he stayed one year too long and had lost the players not because the Laidley appointment was a bad one.

What if Ratts dismisses a strategy that Laidley offers him because it doesn't fit in with his ideology?
What's the point of bringing in someone with (supposed) superior strategies to work under a supposedly flawed ideology? It's not logical.
