What is it with this lust for negative stories about Carlton?

At least its more valid than Jon Ralph's negative article after we won by 55 points on Thursday night.

They must get a bonus for every Carlton bashing article they write.

So glad that I don't subscribe to that rag anymore, and even gladder that the club seems to be giving all their exclusive stories to The Age this year.

It's just a whinge. It comes across that she hasn't contacted the Club or Melbourne City Council about when or if the facilities will be opened to the public.

Whiny bitch.

Everyone has a different interpretation on what opening it up to the community means. Having school excursions is opening it up to the community.

Go join an overpriced local gym like everyone else.
How'd you expect our boys to be great with the whole of Carlton clogging up the gym and pool huh??
Not to mention the greater chance of catching colds, flu, and God knows what else...cleaning up all the discarded mess..probably from the pool....
good grief.....general public...please stay away.
bah humbug.
ok...maybe the disenfranchised youth can come in....

Meh... Now that we're actually winning regularly, havent had the disasterous season most 'experts' had predicted, the 'Booze Cruise' is but a distant memory, and the Fev circus is no longer around, they have to find something to whine about... This time round this 'issue' does the trick..

Yeah exactly, seems a bit of a storm in a teacup.

Do other clubs let the general public use their facilities? (besides Norf who are mentioned in the article)

Just fired this off:

The community aspect of the facility was always going to be the local businesses, meeting rooms, lecture theatre, group fitness rooms (i.e. a large bare room with air con) and sporting museum that will come in time. There was never any suggestion of gymnasium access, and there never will be as the equipment is within Carlton HQ, and used by close to 50 professional athletes on a daily basis.

This isn't the Windy Hill fitness centre, where the gym is in a closed off section, and it never will be. Get your facts right before you write a ridiculous article.

My reference: http://www.carltonfc.com.au/News/NewsAr ... wsId=66389

"The Carlton Football Club and Visy will share the following facilities with the community:

- 70-person Lecture Theatre to be known as the Visy Sustainability Living Centre
- Café and Function Room
- Community Meeting Room
- group exercise room/studio suitable for community fitness
- smaller meeting rooms

The local community will also enjoy improved public open space area."

Your reference:
- A half-cocked e-mail to the Mayor of Melbourne
- A very selective skim read of press material

Yeah she's a Carlton supporter, but she's also a ranting idiot with a press pass.

F*ck the locals anyway, if it wasn't for them we'd have a 50,000 seat stadium and play 8 home games a year and every other club licking our rings begging to pay us to play there.

Yes

Gym facilities? I only know of North, and for all I know they're referring to the NM Rec Centre, which has had a pool and small gym set-up for 10 years.

Essendon* started out as such with the Windy Hill Fitness centre, but the Dons rarely use that now, if at all.

Yes I meant regular use of the actual gym/pool facilities, not just using the cafe or booking a studio for a school aerobics class.

Quite comfortable with all the negetative press we get nowadays, used to annoy the hell out of me. But then I thought 'stuff it, accept it, embrace it" and now I just grin.

As for the locals for yeras and years they have actively opposed everything the club has tried to do, including the new development. To except the general public to have full use of facilities is naive, however I am pretty sure if a community group went to the club with a proposal it would be looked at. I can see a mutually benefical relationship with Melb Uni High being one thing that would be a perfect 'community' based activity.

That's a bit pointless when they're directly across the road from Melb Uni, with plenty of ovals and equipment to spare.
