Will Kreuzer ever be the same?

Post subject:  Will Kreuzer ever be the same?
Last night when I saw his awkward landing, I knew right away that he'd done some serious damage to his knee, and the agony in his face told the story. I also initially thought of Koutoufides, how such a complete player, good overhead, great skills, can battle at ground level can lose a fair bit after doing a knee injury. Kouta was never the same after he did his knee for the second time. In comparison to Kreuzer (and I'm not saying Kreuze is as good as Kouta), both players share similar traits in that Kouta was an athletic freak for his size, and so is Kreuzer.

Will this knee injury impact greatly on Kreuzer's playing ability?? Will he ever be the same athletic freak again??
I'm interested to know the opinions around here, particularly if you have a medical knowledge.

Thoughts?

I'd go the Lars way of he needs the full reco.

Not sure if there is any difference between the two procedures as I 'm sure Dr Jimmae can tell us, but the difference between 12 months out of the game versus 3 months, I know which one I would choose.

He's 21 years old so has a long career ahead of him. Long term decisions will obviously be made with his surgery and rehab.

In my medical opinion, they'll put a bionic knee joint in and he will be twice the player he was.

As I've said before, the LARS technique uses an artificial graft rather than a hamstring graft or transplanted graft as can sometimes happen. The problem with relying on a synthetic material for the next 10 years of a football career is that unlike human tissue it doesn't repair and strengthen under increased load; like any synthetic material, they just warp, creating a level of creep in the joint over time.

Maybe in another five or ten years when the synthetics are capable of allowing tissue growth to intertwine with, then eventually envelop the material and replace it (and these are being developed), but until then I personally see the technique as high risk for anyone with more than two years of their career left, or at least those under the age of 26.

In fact, would gladly go so far as to actively protest any club decision to perform this procedure on Kreuzer. Having said that, it may not have been an ACL rupture, although the level of hyperextension supports the argument one of the cruciate ligaments giving way.

..personally, i don't think it will effect Krooz too much.. ..hiss game is built around good skills, and great endurance.. ..as well as his repeat efforts and great footy brain.. ..his game is neither built upon speed, nor high leaping ability.. ..usually a knee blow-out used to reduce a players speed, agility and/or high marking.. ..and, the surgery techniques and rehab have come a long way too.. ..hopefully he should be ok.... ..waite doesn't seen hampered by his knee reco..

When it happened, I felt an emotional tsunami crash over every nerve ending in my body. It didn't seem real. I felt his pain.

I slumbered into total depression, oblivious to the rest of the world... It made me sick.

It was a dark night for Carlton and a sad night for the kreuz.

He'll be ok. His natural ability and determination will ensure it.

My wife asked me, 'why don't I get as emotional about things in relation to her?'
I responded, ' because you're not mat kreuzer'....

Not good news at all. Terrible for our chances in the finals this year.

Can't remember exactly what Kouta did the second time around when he did his knee. Was his ACL??

Most superstars get a serious injuryat the start of their career.

Wayne Carey had a serious shoulder injury in 1991 that kept him out for 10 weeks.
Stephen Silvagni had serious injuries early in his career and played 300+ games.
Murph & Judd had serious injuries early in their career.

It seems only superstars get serious injuries early in their career.

Hope Krooz has a nice steady recovery and we don't do anything stupid to rush him back.

They are shoulder injuries. The game was robbed of a superstar when David Schwarze did his knee.

In answer to if he will ever be the same, he will probably need to adjust his playing style but I think he will be fine and may play more up forward. Lets hope Hammer and Warnock can rip it up so he can give us an extra dimension next year.

Waite did his in late May of 09 and came back for round 1.

No reason why Kreuz cant be back for round 4-5 in 2011 assuming he opts for the traditional methods.
