Post subject:  10 Rounds to Go - Predictions?

So looking at the rest of the draw, I am trying to come up with a prediction of where we will finish. I have not been buying into the Top 4 hype, as we are clearly not consistent enough yet.

We are currently on 7 wins, and going objectively on our current form I have 3 more wins pencilled in, being: Brisbane, West Coast, Richmond.

Which takes us to 10 wins, which doesn't really equal finals.

Just wondering where people see our other wins coming from?

Melb games remaining:
Freo, Bris, Dogs, Swans, Collingwood, Essendon*, Richmond, Geelong

Interstate games remaining:
West Coast, Freo

- Do you think we will beat Freo at home?
- Can we play hard enough to knock off Swans or Pies?
- Will we somehow miraculously break our hoodoo against Bombers?
- Can we continue our dominance of Cats and Dogs?

Looking at our remaining games I think a 5th or 6th finish will be a good result
What do we all think?

There's no doubt we will win more than 10 games for the year. Can see us beating Brisbane, Fremantle at least once, Sydney, Richmond, West Coast, dare I say it, Essendon*, and we have a good record against the Dogs. I think we'll end up around the mark of 13 wins.

Can't see us beating Geelong at Etihad Stadium, Collingwood will be hard to beat, and Fremantle at home looks a challenge.

Will be happy finishing around 5th or 6th with about 13 wins. Anything after that is a bonus for me.

It's all guess work.
I'm a bit disillusional with our inconsistency thus far.
I do expect our season to improve, not because of the draw, but because the team learns to play together and of course I have faith in Cordy's fitness plan.

Freo (Dome) >>>>>>>>>>>WIN 8
BREAK
Lions (Dome) >>>>>>>>>>>WIN 9
Doggies..........................................mmmmmm 50/50
Swans (Dome) >>>>>>>>>WIN 10
WCE (Subiaco) >>>>>>>>>WIN 11
Coll (MCG)......................................mmmmmm 50/50
Ess (MCG) >>>>>>>>>>>>>WIN 12
Rich (MCG) >>>>>>>>>>>>WIN 13
Geel (Dome)...................................................LOSS
Freo (Subiaco)................................................LOSS

I do expect more than 2 losses for the remainder of the season, but who knows.
Lets get over Freo this weekend and equal them on points for 4th spot.

I expect finals and still confident in the possibility of a Top 4 finish.

Just have a look at the ups and downs of other teams in the comp, including Doggies, Hawks, Swans, Lions, Bumbers.
Is there more ups and downs to come from the abovementioned and others?
Will Freo's intensity continue?
Will Magpies have a flat patch?

Can we take a spot in the 4 from Freo or the Doggies?
We have an opportunity to bridge the gap against them.

We do play both and our destiny is in our own hands.

Signs are we are peetering out but I think we will win 5 more and finish 7th or 8th, which is better than I thought at the start of the year and equals a pass mark or C grade performance

We can be lethal with our best 22. If they are fit (Bower, Lucas, armfield) anything can happen.
Which version of Carazzo, murphy and Houlihan are you going get. The touch footy down hill skiing version or hard tackling grunt version? If they give us 15 weeks of grunt anything can happen
Hampson to Ruck releasing Kruezer into the forward line adds class to our structure
Judd gets injured, it can go pear shaped pretty quickly.

Is it set in stone that Collingwood will be in the top 4?
I think not.
in May,iI posted that Lloydy thought Saints had no hope and C'wood to win flag....
I scoffed at that and said I thought Saints would still win..got trashed here by someone....
ok Pies probably will make top 4...but you can't bet on them, Freo or Doggies can you?
I'm gonna put us down for 15 wins.
Don't know where that would place us.
I reckon we will beat Collingwood and Essendon* this time..
should get Freo this week...
Would we have gotten Freo twice in the draw if AFL knew how good they'd be this year?
Bit of bad luck there.
I'm more concerned with the teams we should beat like West Coast and Lions..not sure on Sydney either.

If we're serious about top 4, then I think we'll make it.
Although realistically, I think 5 -7 is a good result.
I have a gut feeling we're going to beat Essendon* next time we play them. Maybe I just wish lol.
I think we'll beat freo this week, and we'll beat Brisbane, we've had the wood over the dogs, doesn't mean a thing though really.
We should win 3 of the next 4 fingers crossed.
Top 4 is very possible, Depends how hungry the boys are each week, we lack hunger against weaker sides.

Hmmm.

I think we will beat Freo (in Melb), Brisbane, West Coast, Essendon* (just got a feeling), Richmond (although they are improving an I think they will give us a scare). That takes us to 12 wins.

I think we will lose to Geelong - they will NOT be underestimating us this time - and Freo in Freo (going on no team winning the week after playing Geelong)

Undecided on Dogs, Swans and Filth. Leaning towards yes for Dogs - too patchy, no for Swans and Filth.

Therefore we should finish around 7th with 13 wins same as last year. I think anywhere from 5th-9th is possible depending on whether or not Good Carlton or Bad Carlton show up (it's like Good Fev and Bad Fev isn't it)

Although if we only won 2 games for the rest of the season and they were over Coll and Ess I'd probably take that.

We will belt the Swans. Lock it in.

Reckon we'd need Bower back in for that one. Danny Bradshaw has been known to murder us a fair bit, including in last year's EF.

Honestly, I don't know how many games we'll win and lose over the remainder of the season.

However, I do believe that unless the Paddle Pops can turn it on after the break, which they very well might, I think you can lock in the top eight as your Final Eight (all that could change is positioning).

The way that this season is shaping up people were a year off of Geelong's demise though it really could come under the pump closer to Finals time with the Ablett situation (see the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers and how that team fell apart with LeBron James when they were the best team in the NBA this year). I think adding Riewoldt back into the Saints lineup will throw them off more than it will bolster their finals chances (they've had to go from playing without their gun KPF with a number of players assuming new roles that they'll have come to know well to playing with him all over again very close to Finals time allowing a very marginal adjustment time; it's never the first game that you worry about, either. The first usually goes superb (like he'd never been gone) because of the hype/attitude of the club, it's the game or so afterwards). It'll be interesting to see how Collingwood performs if Maxwell is out for an extended period (he's not that great of a player, but as their captain is a major part of the glue that holds the team together) as it could ruin their season; Fremantle may be too young/inexperienced come Finals time as they remind me a lot of how we were this time last season.

It really could be a season where the fifth, sixth or even seventh/eighth (if it's a Melbourne based team playing a Melbourne based final) has a legitimate shot at the premiership. So dont count any of the Dogs, Blues, Hawks combination out unless one of them has to play an interstate final.

My fear is that we finish fifth and win our first final only to have to play the Dockers in WA for the second time in the season. Ideally, we'd finish top four and control our destiny come second week of the Finals or failing that be in a prime position to play the loser of St. Kilda (or Geelong) Vs Collingwood at the MCG as I feel that if we put in our best we can beat all three. I guess that means put me down for a top four position or a home final in week one whether as the sixth placed team.

Final Predictions

1. Geelong
2. St Kilda
3. Collingwood
4. Western Bulldogs
5. Fremantle
6. Carlton
7. Sydney
8. Hawthorn

Geelong d. Western Bulldogs
St Kilda d. Collingwood
Fremantle d. Hawthorn
Carlton d. Sydney

week 2

Carlton d. Collingwood
Western Bulldogs d. Fremantle

Week 3.

Carlton d. Geelong
St Kilda d. Western Bulldogs

Grand Final

Carlton d. St Kilda

Agree with your three and like us to beat the Dogs. They don't play the hard push up pressure style that causes us problems (see Pies, Hawks and now NM :banghead: ). In a free flowing game we will beat them in contested ball, pressure them into turnovers. We hunt very well, just can't handle being hunted.

Cats the same, reckon we're a really good chance. Especially close to the end of the year where the Cats may be more focused on training loads, list rotation in preparation for Finals than notching another win.

Think we'll come home with a 50% strike rate, 5 and 5. That may see us slide a bit, but we should be around 6-7 come end of the season.
