Jordan Russel
Paul Bower
Andrew Walker
Dennis Armfeld
Aaron Joseph

All run and carry players, all look to break lines with pace, all fairly quick and good users of the football.

Up and going i think we really have alot of dash out of our backline. Lets just pray 1AW stays fit and Armfeld and Bower can get fit and we can have our best back 6 play together running into the finals.

Even T-Bird had a run and a bounce on Saturday out of the back line. Wonders will never cease.

I saw that also from T-Bird; good on him.

There's also Anderson, he'll get there. If you read the Bullants report you would also have to pencil in Tuohy for next year. A great read and very exciting to hear about this bloke.

Yeah I agree completely Benji. I think we will be seen as the benchmark for a running backline in the not too distant future. I think Kane Lucas on the wing/hb also added to our back line run when he was in the side. Getting this first choice backline fit and on the park will make for an exciting 2nd half of the season. I can't wait!

I reckon Walker is almost our most important player at the moment. His run of HB is enormous and is amplified by the fact that he plays taller than he is so you can match him up on a third tall or KP forward who can't possibly go with him the other way.

This is our best back six for mine

Army Jammo AJ
Walks Bowzer JR

A good mix of height, Mid size and small, run and carry with speed and good ball use to set up counter-attack football which is where we will hurt most sides. Your best offence is a good defence.

T-Bird to play a pinch hitter forward/relief backman

With guys like Davies, O'keefe, Austin, Tuoy & Anderson all competing for spots we should have a strong back six for years to come.

One of our real improvements has been getting lots and lots of run into our backline.

But we still don't have enough elite skills coming out of the backline, other than Russell. That's one of the reasons why Gibbs is getting played back.

Lucas was a real plus with his pace and high skill level, when he was in. And if Tuohy can continue to develop, it sounds like he's got both pace and skill. And if O'Keeffe can ever get his body right, he's got some real skill as well (even if he's not all that quick).

Walks as 2nd/2rd tall instead of Thornton has been a big move and has added much more run to our backline

I think they are trying to figure out where to play Thornton now - don't mind trying him up fwd, you never know !

But once Bower is back surely that changes the landscape even further still

Maybe then Gibbs gets put back into the engine room, and back six becomes

AJ, Jamo, Army
Walks, Bower, JR

T-Bird becomes a tall utility in place of White

Agreed  Without Jammo doing the holding role the others wouldn't have the freedom to run. He also shows great leadership back there.

Getting a good running backline together has helped the whole team and gameplan gel together. We saw glimpses of it late last season when injury forced us to play with a shorter backline and now this year its really firing and giving us more corridor action. The ability of Gibbs, Walker and Russ to play tall gives us many options and would cause the opposition coaches great headaches. Like us they could put defensive forwards on our dashers but Ratts seems too smart for them and just lets whoever they choose to slow up, play his man one on one and perhaps just get him to corrupt their forward setup. Someone else then slots into the dasher role setting up play.

Armfield Jamo Walker
Russ Bower Gibbs

Should give the opposition coaches something to think about.

armfield, jamo, tex russ, thornton, lucas, bower loose man to be 3rd up in contests and run/attack thats enough to give opposition coaches headaches! we'll have the best backline in the league in 12 - 18 months

man i love walker and armfields run, even if they do shank a few kicks now and then.
Lucas is a big addition he has skill and poise.

I think of Sydney's 4 of Kennelly, Malceski, Shaw and Mattner and thats not bad. Although i think they are all too similar and we have more variety.

Milburn, Mackie, Wojinski, Enright and Hunt is probably the best atm.
