we have beat the two premiers
better rankn this year than last
great emergn backline
much more depth since pre 2000
just wondering what you guys think
we deserve credit but maybe this will help the boys head from swelling?

By jove your raise some pertinent points young lad.

By golly by gosh we are well and truly underrated.

But I fear to tell you, we have not beaten the two Premiers, just the one.

Our "rankin" was good last year but is still much the same this year old sport. Rankin!

The back line is presenting in a very fashionable manner, no question.

I hope the head keeps small. Golly gosh! If it doesn't I will be beside myself in horror.

We look good we win

We look shite when we lose and make excuses.

We are not as consistant as the best teams, thats why we are 5th.

But we are a team that should improve during the course of the year.

I noticed this too tonight on footy classified and whatever the show on One Hd is. Best place to be. We're not rated. Good. Less pressure on the team. Let them praise the others. Bower, Yarran and maybe Brock can quietly come into the team with Hampson, Grigg and Henderson all pushing.

I would much prefer to be out of the spotlight than in the papers/on TV every week either getting hyped up or given a bollocking like Collingwood, the Dogs, Hawthorn and Geelong are (the latter two generally just get hyped up without the bollocking).

we are under the radar - but 5th or 6th sums us up.

having said that, next 4 weeks will tell us as much about the season than any other 4 week stretch (Freo, Bulldogs, Sydney).......

what i do find amusing , if anything, is that prior to the season starting most 'experts' predicted carlton would be the biggest disappointment vs 2009. Still work to be done, however we are on track to finish with 12 plus wins.......the media gets clouded by the reliance on Judd.

Yep we were written off by most. Bottom four by many. Just goes to show that the players and Coaching staff despite a few blips have done a pretty good job

But what about Fev?
There's no more Fev.
Ox and Dermy and the gang on SEN still wantvto know where our goals will come from.

Did I mention No Fev yet?
Therefore we will finish last

On 3AW last night there was a damning stat from David king. Whilst the backline may appear to be strong we are actually ranked 5th for turnovers out of defence.

Some of those would be kick ins.

In a weird way this stat is a reflection on how well we are defending. We are getting the ball out of defence a lot more then previous years because our defenders are competing a lot better. A few years ago we didn't have the opportunity to make mistakes coming out of defence because the opposition scored goals. The more rebounds from 50 we get the more mistakes we will make, its inevitable. Although I do believe we need to do better with this, the stat is not a true reflection on our defence as a whole.

Over the last five weeks not the whole season though darknavy. Thinking about it, it actually could be worse for the season

Missed the very start of the convo, but was King talking about turnovers or scores generated from the back half. He was talking about how good we were at generating scores from stoppages and then how good the Hawks were at generating scores from their back half a little bit after that.

He crouches amongst the bushes and trees and tries to blend and should be neither seen nor heard.

It's not a positive stat Swan. It's how teams score goals these days, from turnovers.
I am sure its something the coaching staff are aware of and are working to reduce. I think it may be a reason why we are playing up the boundary lines as per Aaron joseph's Q&A. We aren't high skilled enough to confidently play through the corridor all the time. Unless there is an opening, you notice the boys playing through the wing.

Post subject:  Re: Still flying under the radar...

I was going to raise this as a topic today, 'this' being the low key nature of the response to our record.

I think it's good. Physically we are a rapidly maturing side, mentally I am not so sure.

This week we have another opportunity to continue this trend of relative anonymity - should the boys have a win, there's every chance the game will be lost in the drama over the long weekend. Exactly what we'd be wanting heading into a potential top four showdown the following week.

This gets even better, because there should be an intense focus internally as injured players put pressure on for spots. We might find this to be the perfect focus level for the group - a massive fight on for spots in the team with minimal external focus on the results. Long may it continue!
