One thing that struck me watching yesterday's game was how we failed to capitalise on our midfield domination. Even the coach said we should have scored more.

Even though we are one of the highest scoring teams in 2010, I still think we could be achieving more up fwd if we had a gun target up fwd. As good as Setanta has been, and he has been good, I suspect Waite is a better no.1 target and the closest thing we have to a gun fwd.

Do we think Waite, with Setanta as no.2, Hendo developing, and Betts/Yarran/Garlett at the feet is good enough to make us serious contenders in the coming years?

Let's face it, we are unlikely to snare a star fwd in the off season. Roughie has signed, and Pav would be reluctant to leave now he is skipper and the Docker's are no.2 on the ladder.

We have to face realities, Waite might be our best KPP fwd option for the coming few years, with Setanta alongside, and Henderson developing (still 2 yrs off taking opp teams apart in my view).

Of course there is Kruez, but let's for the sake of arguments say the club are dead set on him being a ruck 1st and foremost, so cancel him out of the equation for discussions on fwds.

If we play waite up forward, then we'd have to play Henderson down back and I really don't think that will aid his development much at all.
That was, after all, the reason he looked to be traded back to Melbourne last year from brisbane. With Fev Coming up along side Brown,....... well, he was never gonna get a shot as a forward.

Hendo has been frustrating to watch and inconsistent at best............. but he has shown some good signs.

Take for example, the West coast game.
HARDLY got on the board and he's stats suggest he was mediocre at best - but I saw some desperation in his attack on the ball, which I liked.

Setanta's been a handy replacemnt for Fevola up forward,.......... better than we all expected and had hoped for.
His little helpers (Betts / Garlett and Yarran) have been just as potent.
Our midfield have also improved on their goal input, which is great.

I think we can afford to leave Hendo up forward for the next 3 or 4 weeks when we play (what is assumed to be) our easy run of the season.

(End note: I was actually calling for him to be droped a few weeks back, but I think he has really improved since coming back into the seniors. Give him a few weeks and see how he goes................. let him settle I say!)

I think Waite's the answer down back, replacing Tbird.

absolutely...leave henderson in the side, he will be a much better player playing that link role rather than holding down CHF

He plays his best footy in the backline. Waite and Bower into defence releases Gibbs to play forward of centre.

Waite isn't a KPP.
Doesnt take enough contested marks and lacks strength in the one on ones. Good as a 3rd tall.

Yep and down back. He plays the loose rebounding defender, intercepting passes role to perfection.

We play our best with a smaller mobile backline. Its good now and will be better when Bower replaces Thornton.
Waite as our second tall forward is the answer. Henda keeps developing in the twos or replacing one of Waite or Carlos if their form drops.

Contested marks in the forward fifty are rare for all teams. Living in fear of the other team taking them or us not taking enough is not the way forward.

Waite is a good lead up forwards and can pluck the occasional contested mark. The rest is how good he is in creating a contest, holding his feet and applying defensive pressure. He fits the bill or at the very least is a bit better than hendo at it for now.

The way i see it...........

Waite should not have to worry about another player............
he needs to be the other teams problem..........that's when
he's at his best........!

but we have walker bower and Jamison to play back we don't need Waite and why release Gibbs when the most important player in the team is the half back general and Gibbs is perfect for that role with Russell and army running off him

Hendo looks the goods but is still young and raw
Waite has shown he can impact a game with bags of 4 or 5
I would like to see him play dozen games up forward to settle in that role

Waites best position is on the wing. Waite could have a Kouta style year if he remained injury free and was allowed to roam the ground without the worry of a opponent.

For Sure

Waite plays forward line.
Setanta plays full forward.
Yarran, Garlett, Betts run wild with Houlihan up forward aswell.

If you watch our forward line with out Waite up forward, it is like we have no high marking presense. He straightens up the forward line a lot.

I dont know how people can suggest we play Waite back. If you watched the St kilda game, we were so dangerous with Waite up forward.

Henderson should go to the reserves when waite comes back in.

Stop playing players not ready and play our best players
