Many Coaches claim that your rarely see the best from players until they have reached the 60 game mark, which is in their 4th but more likely and 5th/6th years. Obviously some 'Freaks' (normally in the top 20 in the draft) do it early but normally 4 to 6.

Here is the current breakdown of the blues list as of Rd7. Not counting those that haven't played a game yet it shows that basically 50% are under that 60 mark. Of those under the 60 about 50% are in or around our best 22 so the growth potential in experience, fitness and physical strength is enormous.

Great stats C'Man. It would be interesting to know if there's been a faster 100 games by an indigenous player than Eddie. He must hold the CFC record at least.

It will be great to see him reach 200-250 games for the Blues .

Just read the Mozzie Mozzie Mozzie (http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/m ... -uuw2.html) article on Real Footy.

Looking at how young our side is, I cannot help but be @#$%&! excited about our potential and what we are really capable of.

Betts, Garlett and Yarran in the forward half. These guys are not puzzles to be clicked into place. I reckon these guys are like lego pieces that you can do anything with.

I know that these thoughts have been repeated, but humour me anyway. I am still on a high after Monday's game. The coaches now have a blank canvas in the forward line to do whatever we want. No longer is it "Kick it to Fev".

The only worry at the start of the year was whether the youngens like Garlett and Yarran will take the game on, take the shots themselves. 7 games in, their confidence are up, they know they can play the game. They know they belong in the big time. Yarran's interview after the game showed that he is no longer a shy boy. He speaks his mind and not afraid to tell it like it is (e.g. St Kilda's defence is slow...gem!). He strikes me as the type who has controlled confidence. Confidence of his own ability and not boastful nor arrogant. Genuinely believes in himself.

Anyway, cannot wait for the next match!!! Go Blues!!!

collingwood had 13 guys with 60 or less and 10 guys with 50 or less games running around today.

That's odd.

I count 9 players with 60 or less and 7 with 50 or less.

They also have 12 players with over 100 games.

How does that compare with where we're at?

What's amazing is that they only have one player in that side (Toovey) who's played between 60 and 100 games.

That's our team from the Sydney final and the games they've now played.

Add to that in my best 22 I'd have Kreuzer (56), Yarran (22) and Lucas (8).

Eddie and Mick like to bang on about how inexperienced their side is but there's a fair bit of smoke and mirrors.

They have 12 100 game players. When Russell, Gibbs, Jamison, Bower and Kreuzer are likely to get to 100 in two to three years we'll have a similar experience profile to the Collingwood side that just won the flag.

Last time i trust triple m. I checked footywire and the stats summary does list 10 guys with 50 games or less. However, when you drill in there are only 7 as you rightly point out.

Goldsack (56) & Wellingham (52) get them to 9 guys and not 13 under 60 games

And we are about to lose 5 players who have played over 50 games.

We really are coming from a long way back when you look at it.

Young blokes who rocked up to Collingwood over the last five years had Buckley, Waklin, Clement, Licker, Rocka etc to watch and learn from. Although not all of them are top players they all meant business when it come to footy. D1ckheads like the Shaws and Didak got sorted out pretty quick.

Young blokes rocking up at carlton between 2002 - 2007 got nothin. Fev teaching them how to bet, Stevens and whitnal hitting the turps, Houla partying hard, stubborn Pagan not keen on the modern way things are done. Carlton just wasnt the place to get the best out of yourself.

Now we have Judd and Ratts is working his way through the list and slowly but surely removing those who are not quite up for it. Judd, Carrazzo, Simpson and Waite are the ones setting the example now with Krooz, Murphy, Jamo, Russ and gibbs working up to being good leaders. Only now are recruits starting to turn up and see how it should be done. Lucas, White and Davies all showing a bit and Zac looking the goods. That second rung of leaders starts peaking so will we as team.

We should continue to see good results from here on in as we now have a good set up for development and a good culture amongst the playing list developing.

I don't have a problem with losing/trading players if they're unlikely to hit 200 games.

There's churn at every club every year. At least now we get something in return instead of just delisting them.

We lost an entire generation over the last decade and the figures above show how devastated our list was for the variety of reasons we're all well aware of. As club29 points out our kids haven't had alot of leadership to help them in the early years of their careers and have been thrown into the deep end from the start.

We've made a fair whack of mistakes over the last decade and there are still plenty of things that need fixing but considering where we were three years ago we've actually come a fair way recently.

At the risk of getting off topic, this is why I really hope we don't go after, let alone get, either of
Tarrant or Brennan. As an outsider looking in my impression is that neither of these blokes are likely to promote the
sort of culture we want at Carlton.

Collingwood have got a stack of kids who have not played many games, and they won a Premiership

They do though have about 3-4 more 100+ gamers than we do, most weeks they play

Does this tell us then 3-4 more experienced players in a team of 22 can be the cause for such a huge difference in team performance? Or is the reason Blues finished 8th and Pies finished 1st caused by something else? Maybe the quality of the game plan?

I am not sure midfield depth is the answer. Pies have about 9 mids and we have about 8. Not a great deal of difference there
