Nice article... if only because I agree with the premise that the top-quality key forward is an over-rated commodity in football.

Look at Brisbane with Brown and Fevola. Look at Carlton with Setanta and a bunch of smalls. Which side has scored more heavily this year???

In the print article it finished with the following paragraph,

"As for sheldon he took a frien from America to Monday night's game. The friend was attending just his second game. "He was over the moon about it", said Sheldon. "He went there a St Kilda supporter and came home a Carlton supporter. You've got to be happy with that."

Gold! :smoking:

Likewise, the print article has some great additional quotes about Yazand his goalkicking - they are clearly having fun at the moment.

Good read. Thanks Cazz. The first article didn't mention Jimmy Buckley. HUGE omission !!!!
Long way to go to match the boys of yesteryear, but heading in the right direction.

Home is where the heart is ''Uncle Bom''. I'm sure your old man taught you that. Morning Jim.

Setanta really is flying under the radar, even his team mates aren't aware of his impact...

Think he means over his career not this season

Description of Mark Maclure's role with the mosquito fleet in The Age could be a description of Setanta.

Jeff and Chris share a house but they come around for dinner to my place all the time. And Joey Anderson from the back line he comes over, too. But I am the boss. Andrew Walker is indigenous too and he is the oldest down there at Carlton so I look up to Andrew and all the boys look up to me and Andrew but I am still the boss overall."

This is always what concerns me after a good win. Puff pieces and articles about how "most sides will struggle against these guys".

Very worried...

Nice article which also proves that Kade Simpson is the most underrated invisible elite player in the competition. He would be 2nd picked in our team every week after Judd and IMO would walk in to most team's best 22

Very poorly researched article for someone of Martin Blake's calibre - it was Alex Jesaulenko who brought the Mosquito Fleet together as a game plan when he took over as coach in 1978. Parkin did not come to the club till 1981.

As for Ken Sheldon - he could have done a bit more to make sure his son was part of Mosquito Fleet Mark II.

Now let me get back to my VCE Themes in Australian History Study Class - "Carlton Football Club - The Golden Years 1965 to 1995".

Interesting that the "mozzy, mozzy, mozzy" article says the Mosquito Fleet was a Parkin invention, which "helped deliver the 1979, '81 and '82 premierships to Princes Park."

Parkin is truly a genius if he was able to orchestrate Carlton's Premiership in 79, when he was Hawthorn coach.

Correctamundo. And Jezza was in charge when we started what became known as 'the premiership quarter'. Harmes should have rated a mention too, many a game in that 78-79 period especially when he was moved into the centre and destroyed sides with his pace and long kicking. Oh and Vinny Cattoggio wasnt too bad either. Brings a tear to me eye remembering those great days.
